Exotic Foods of NZ and Australia
I met some wonderful cooks on this journey - Pepper and Lee could open their own restaurants - speaking of restaurants Pepper took me to a Chinese Yum Char - they serve various selections from carts that weave their way through the restaurant - one such cart had a pile of the above on it - I thought it was a joke - it wasnt lol - talk about being grossed out .....Pepper has really small hands ( to match her really small body - ) I made her take off her ring and put it on that chickens finger ....
Pepper always made sure there was a big bowl of fruit available -
and talk about exotic !!! Some things I had never tasted before and arent even available in the US - like the fejoa - pictured below. Peppers friend Kathy made jam from many of these fruits and
I was able to bring some home for family to sample.
Similar in appearance to our sweet potatoes and yet tastes altogether different
Tasted this in Oz, had never heard of it before
Pepper said I just had to try a delicacy called whitebait .... I was a bit leary of the name since I am not in the habit of eating bait... but hey she said it was a gourmet treat there ... tried it - doesnt look bad does it ??? But............ ( SCROLL DOWN)
This is how it looks before they make those fritters - those black things are eyeballs  !!! Yuck - Pepper let me eat eyeballs !!!!! ( waaaaahhhhhh)
Whitebait
Later in my trip when I was in Tasmania I did in fact see a sign at a baitshop- they were having a special on whitebait - lol the Australian gent I was with however did say that it was in fact considered a delicious delicacy !!!
