DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
Introduction:
The department of Computer Science was
established in 1990 by the University Grants Commission (UGC), to start the
one-year (two-semesters) full time course of Post Graduate Diploma in Computer
Science and Applications (PGDCA). Apart from the initial basic grants provided
by the UGC, the Department of Electronics (DOE), also provided some financial
assistance for the purchase of computers and peripherals. The first batch of
PGDCA started in Nov., 1991 with the intake of 22 students. Encouraged with the
popularity and success of the course, the intake of students in subsequent
batches was enhanced. For those who are working or living in remote places and
cannot undertake such a full time course, the Department introduced a PGDCA
course through correspondence in collaboration with the Distance Education
Center of the APS University in 1995, which is also running very successfully.
Recently, two new courses, one in M.Sc. (Computer Science) and the other in M.Sc
(Information Technology), both two year full time courses, have been started
under the self supporting program by the Department (w.e.f.1999-2000 and
2000-2001 respectively).
