Ice Box Episode 7.04 “He Does Exist” 03/17/2009
Bradley Fulton and Derek Bedford are in the bathroom in their motel room. They shared a nice quiet dinner at Texas Hot last night. The two were able to spend time together and talk about not being able to see each other as much as they’d like to. Derek is feeling optimistic after explaining how he felt being cooped up all day in a motel without any friends to socialize with while Bradley spends his days with Edward or working on managing his career.
“I’m so glad we had time to ourselves last night. It was nice to just relax,” Derek tells Bradley.
“Me too, and I’ve been thinking about what you said yesterday in the car,” Bradley agrees.
There is a short pause in the conversation as Derek begins to brush his teeth.
Bradley continues, “I want to spend more time with you, honestly I do. I enjoy time when we’re together. It doesn’t matter what we do. I hope you’re not upset with me, I’m just trying to do my job.”
Derek shakes his head then spits into the sink, “I’m not mad. I actually feel good about us right now.” He continues to brush his teeth.
“Then you wouldn’t mind that I have to go over to Edward’s for the phone conference, right?” Bradley confirms.
Even thought Derek knew about this phone conference, he is feeling jealousy and anger. He doesn’t show it on his face, however. He starts to pout; he brings out his lower lip. “I know you have to go. Promise me when you get back we can do something fun. I’ll be waiting here, and when you get back, I’ll be wagging my tail like a puppy.”

Bradley is surprised that Derek isn’t showing anger towards Edward or himself. Bradley leans in to give Derek a kiss, “Mmm, minty-fresh breath. I love it.” He gives Derek a few more kisses before leaving the bathroom. “I’ll be home this afternoon, okay?”
“Okay,” comes the reply from the bathroom.
“Love you,” Bradley shouts towards the bathroom.
“Love you, too,” Derek shouts back.
At the end of another physical education class, Oliver Diffendale finishes a story to Jamie Crawford. Jamie comments on the unbelievable story, “Are you kidding me? Is this one of his creative writing assignments?”
“I don’t think so. Why would he lie about something like this?” Oliver says to Jamie.
“Maybe he’s looking for attention. Do you play with him at home? Do you talk to him at all?” Jamie suggests.
“I don’t think that’s it. My parents love him and shower him with attention,” Oliver explains to Jamie.
The bell rings as a signal the students to switch classes. Walking down the hall, Jamie and Oliver meet Holly Washington and Veronica Potter.
After they greet each other, Jamie taps Oliver on his chest. “Tell them the story,” he says.
Oliver rolls his eyes, “Ok, so my brother was in the woods down behind the skateboarding park. He was enjoying a nice walk in the winter wonderland we have out there. When all of a sudden, he hears a sound off in the distance of a tree branch cracking. He becomes curious, and walks towards the sound. He then hears another cracking sound.”
“Just tell us what it was already. We have to get to class!” Veronica says impatiently.
“Fine, I’ll give you the readers’ digest condensed version. He got closer and saw big foot,” Oliver tells them as serious as possible.
Veronica and Holly look at one another and then burst into laughter.
Jamie stops their laughter, “Guys, come on, stop laughing. It’s going to get better.”
Oliver starts to walk down the halls and the girls stop him because they want to hear the rest of the story. “I’m not telling you another word. You’re laughing at my brother,” he angrily tells them.

“We’ll stop. I promise, just tell us the rest,” Holly says.
“Quickly,” adds Veronica.
“Fine. So he sees big foot and watches him for a minute or two. Out of the blue big foot turns around and spots my brother. My brother, the idiot, begins to run for his life, scared out of his mind. Big foot begins to chase after him. All of a sudden my brother comes to a stream that is ice covered. He slides across it while maintaining his balance. There was a large rock two steps in front of him. On the second step the ice broke. His leg slipped into the water and he hit his head on the rock. He doesn’t remember what happened after that, but he woke up later and came home. That’s what he told me,” Oliver finishes his story.
“Wow, that’s amazing,” Holly adds, “Was this a creative writing assignment or something?”
Veronica and Holly laugh at the story thinking it is fiction, “Ok, we have to get to class. See you two later,” Veronica says as she chuckles.
After the girls are gone Jamie speaks to Oliver, “Hey, don’t worry about what they think. After hearing the story a second time, I believe you and your brother.”
Another story is being told across town at the Montgomery’s home. Myles Montgomery is telling Irwin Armstrong about his dirty deed from last night.
“So I knocked on the door. Jamie was home alone. He looked out the window to see who it was. I don’t know what he was thinking. Anyway, he opened the door and greeted me. I told him who I was and he about had a heart attack. I sweet-talked my way into the house and gave him a cockamamie story about how I missed Edward and wanted to see if he was home. I know he doesn’t live at home, so I played dumb, asking if I could come in and catch up with him. We talked a lot about this and that. Finally when Jamie was getting tired, I said I was going to go. Before I went, I got this,” Myles explains the details to a patient Irwin. Myles removes an e-mail address on the back of a receipt.
“Awesome, now I can get to work on that virus for Edward’s computer. This will be easy as pie. Which reminds me, what did you get for dessert last night?” Irwin jokes.
Myles becomes anxious, “Could you just worry about this virus thing, please. My mother will be home this afternoon. I would like to see what Edward’s up to by then.”
“Fine,” Irwin says. He opens his laptop and begins working on a virus that will send information back to them as Edward is on his computer.
Edward Crawford is showing signs of having a better attitude and higher spirits. This is due to the website he has found about Kane’s past. The website details the average citizen’s life back in the late 19th century to early 20th century. He comes to a part of the page where the historical society of Kane hosted a winter festival.
The winter festival, held in the time period after World War II, had various winter activities. Such activities included snow sculptures, racing a sled down a main street that was covered with snow, and other various winter related activities.
Edward looks at the webpage with an attentive look on his face. His attention is broken when his cell phone rings. It is Bradley, his intern manager, calling him from outside the Kane Manor.
“Hello, Edward, is your front door unlocked?” he asks as he gazes at a wooden board covering the window. It is the window he smashed breaking into Edward’s home not too long ago. “I don’t want to have to break in again,” he continues.
“Yeah, it’s open. Come on up. I’m in my bedroom,” Edward answers.
“When was the last time you brushed your teeth?” Bradley asks worriedly. “I don’t want this to be like the last time I was at your house. Your breath was rancid,” he continues.
“I brushed this morning about two hours ago. Just get up here already; I have something I want to show you,” he tells Bradley.
Bradley’s curiosity is triggered, “What is it?”
“Just get up here,” Edward repeats.
After a few minutes Bradley arrives upstairs outside of Edward’s bedroom. “I hope he’s taking better care of himself. If he’s brushed his teeth today, we’re off to a good start,” he mumbles to himself.
He opens the door to find Edward sitting at his desk with his laptop open. “If you’re going to show me porn, disgusting photos, or stupid youtube videos, I’d rather not look,” Bradley jokes.
Edward rolls his eyes and sarcastically comments, “Darn, guess I can’t show you the Lonely Island video for their single, ‘Jizz In My Pants’. Would you settle for this?”
Edward moves the laptop screen so Bradley can clearly see. Bradley reads the webpage over. “That’s nifty. Too bad Kane doesn’t do anything fun like that anymore. We don’t even have Kane Fest,” he says.
“That’s what I was thinking. I would like to see this town have more fun. I’m glad you agree. Which brings me to my next topic of discussion, what if Kane were to have a winter festival? Do you think it’d be a big hit?” Edward adds.
Bradley unsure of how he should express his thoughts into words, pauses a moment to think about what Edward is getting to. “Depending on how I respond to that question, if I respond positively, are you going to put something like this together in the near future?” Bradley asks cautiously.
“It doesn’t matter how you respond, I want to try this anyway,” a determined Edward replies.
“Oh, well, in that case, I don’t really want to hear about it right now. Let’s get this phone conference over with, shall we?” Bradley redirects Edward so he can hurry back to Derek.
Bradley calls the management team in New York City. After the greetings are addressed and a little small talk is spoken the phone call gets serious.
“Edward, we understand that you were an emotional wreck over the tour when it was cancelled. We just want you to know tha—,“ a man from the office says while being interrupted by Edward.
“That’s just water under the bridge. Bradley and I have a great idea on how to get local publicity. We’re going to put together a winter festival here in town!” Edward exclaims to the phone.
Bradley looks at Edward with widened eyes and a jaw that is about to fall to the floor.
The daily afternoon newspaper, The Kane Republican, is ready to hit the stores and is hot off the presses. On the front page there is a picture of a dark, hairy being. Below the picture the article states:

“Proof Of Big Foot Alive In Kane’s Forests!”
KANE, PA—Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is an alleged ape-like creature purportedly inhabiting forests, mainly in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. However, there has been a spotting less than five miles from Kane’s borough boundary. Bigfoot is usually described as a large, hairy, bipedal humanoid.
The enormous footprints for which it is named have been as large as 24 inches long and 8 inches wide. While most casts have five toes—like all known apes—some casts of alleged Bigfoot tracks have had numbers ranging from two to six. Some have also contained claw marks, making it likely that a portion came from known animals such as bears, which have four toes and claws. Although we would love to say that this is indeed Bigfoot, we suspect it is just a malnourished bear.
Proponents have also claimed that Bigfoot is omnivorous and mainly nocturnal. The photo from a video was taken at night from a local camper. The campers, who wish to remain nameless, had this to say, “We were so ecstatic to capture this video. If it turns out that it’s not Bigfoot, then at least we had a little excitement.”
The Kane Republican would like to advise hikers and anyone else in the woods in the near future that “Bigfoot” can be dangerous. Since we cannot determine if this creature is friendly, if you happen to see “Bigfoot”, please remain calm and take precautionary measures.
Anyone with further information is asked to report their information to the Kane Republican office, or the local police.
