| INTRODUCTION The IGCC Breeder Resource Site and the IGCC Health Database allow Canadian breeders to freely access information about IG health problems and to check on the current health status of individual IGs. We hope this will be a valuable aid to help both new and established Italian Greyhound breeders. We will be updating the site on an frequent basis, so please visit it regularly. We hope the IGCC Health Database will help Canadian breeders to produce IGs that are healthy and true to type. Its purpose is not to assign blame to breeders of affected IGs. Most heritable illnesses in IGs are late onset and have a recessive pattern of inheritance (if a conclusive pattern of inheritance is known at all). Therefore, it is possible for an otherwise responsible breeder to accidently produce affected animals. POSTING HEALTH DATA Any owners of breeding, non-breeding, retired, or pet IGs may post health data AND pedigrees. You must be the owner of the IG; you cannot post information about someone else's IG. Please print the release form, fill it in, and send it to the IGCC secretary: Christine Himsl-Rayner 65 Peigan Ct. W. Lethbridge, AB T1K 7N8 Need Help? Contact the IGCC secretary, either by mail at the address above, or by phone or e-mail. She will be happy to assist you. ph: (403) 381-9466 email: [email protected] |

| Pet Puppy Owners should note that this is a IGCC breeder website. By all means, feel free to check the database if you are considering a purchase, but please be aware that with the exception of PRA, AIT and Patella affected IGs, other IGs are likely to be "breeder option" dogs. Breeder Option means that the breeder may breed this animal as long as certain pedigree and health conditions are met. For instance, it must be mated to an IG that does not have these same conditions. Also, a certain standard of conformational & type quality should be met. Breeder Option also implies that the IG in question should be used in a limited way in regards to number of times bred. IGs used more than 2-3 times (depending on litter size) should be superior quality in health and type. The whole point of breeding a breeder option IG is to produce enough puppies by a health clear mate so that 1-2 'picks' can be retained by the breeder as future improved breeding & exhibition stock. Once the picks are established, the Breeder Option IG should be retired. In the case where a breeder option IG has not produced any retainable puppies in 1 or2 litters, breeders should consider the wisdom of continuing to breed from this IG; spaying or neutering and eventual retirement to a pet home may be in the best interests of the individual IG and the breed. New IG breeders are encouraged to seek guidence from established breeders & from the IGCC Code of Ethics. |
