Haug praises Coulthard
David has done a great job.

David Coulthard came home in second place at Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix to earn his second straight podium finish, having claimed victory at the previous race in Monaco. The Scotsman began the race at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in eighth place, but 70 laps later had worked his way up to second place holding off a late charge from Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello.

The McLaren drivers great race has moved him to within a point of the Williams duo Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher, who are currently lying in second place behind the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher. It also earned him the praise of Mercedes-Benz motorsport boss Norbert Haug, who was believes that Coulthard's two podium finishes could mark the turning point of the season for the team.

Haug told The Guardian: "David has done a great job. He has proved he is able to produce good results under pressure. He showed his class when he had to fight off Barrichello. Our whole performance is getting better."

And we, italian fans, add what follows:

had it been for one more lap David would have been able for sure to overtake the german, who was definetely running out of fuel, besides having his tyres almost worn out getting first as at Monaco's!

'TWAS  AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE & A NEW BEGINNING FOR THE FLYING SCOT AND FOR MCLAREN! THAT'S WHY WE BELIEVE IN U DAVID! (by the Webmasters)
