SOOKE POTHOLES II - THE RUN CLIMB RUN SWIM RUN HASH

July 14, 2007

VH3 Run # 436 DSH Run # 155 SOOKE POTHOLE II - THE RUN CLIMB RUN SWIM RUN

Fifteen The hare is ready hashers made their way by car, bike and foot to the Sooke Potholes Campground located 2.5 kilometres from the northern parking lot at Sooke Potholes Regional Park. For many that lot was full and as My Cocks A Fallen will tell you it is 3.5 kilometres up hill from the edge of the park. Floppy was bailed out by keys being delivered from Victoria since she had locked her keys in her car.

The other hare

This was the hare's (Stoolie and Plumbers Mate) second run swim run hash at Sooke Potholes. After last year's event many of us expected this to be another adventure in the 68 hectares of parkland. The wily hares had other ideas, however, and this turned out to be on private and Greater Victoria Water District land than on parkland.

It started out innocently enough with a gentle run down the Galloping Goose trail but quickly turned into climb, climb, climb and then balance on the water line for a couple of kilometres. Most of the pack kept in close proximity to the FRB's Hadji, Homer, Richard the Turd and Beaver Fever as even they kept a slow pace on the waterline. After examining a couple of holes in the water line we headed down the hill through the bush until we reached a logging road. From there we returned a ways down the Galloping Goose and then headed down to the river for the run, swim run portion of the trail. My Cocks A Fallen, VD, and Hadji tried to stay dry but by the end of the run we were all wet. BUB wiped out on the algae rocks and she would be rewarded for this with a down-down later for a bogue which was a VH3 offence but not a DSH3 one.

The other hare The beer check was located on Timber West land across the river from the campground. From there it was a short swim and wade back to the start.

The RA for the day was Richard the Turd who managed to nail just about everyone for something. The highlight was the drinking from the new sacred vessel "Elyssha" which was found in the river. This was found by Hadji and we all believed it was a mystical name until we saw the name inscribed on the bottom.

The On-Afters consisted of a steak dinner or veggie burger (cooked by Chef Stoolie) with potato salad and buns. It was a great way to end a good hash.

Stoolie, Plumber's Mate, Floppy, High Beams, Beaver Fever, Testicular and Phil all stayed on and camped at the campground while the rest of us made our way back to town.

On on!
