Firenze
In Venice we met up with the other members of the tour. Six of them and seven of us!! Guess who ruled?? We had a wonderful, comfortable tour bus designed for forty passengers so we had plenty of room and could wander about chatting and socializing. Some of the younger members of the group spent a lot of time sleeping, right Marc, right Paul?
The bus picked us up at the Hotel on Lido and we took the ferry to the mainland and headed for Florence or as the locals say, Firenze. We toured Florence and took day trips to Sienna, San Gimignano, Pisa and the Tuscany countryside.
Take a look at some of the pictures below and click to enlarge the image.
Even happier with a little vino in their hands.
Of course, first stop is the Florence Duomo
The Statue of David - he has really big hands.
The Medici Tower in the town square.
A hazy view of Florence from the hillside
This is the Duomo in Sienna. Spectacular!
The ancient city of San Gimignano
Window shopping in the ancient city
All that shopping gives you sore feet.
Then to the Castle and winery of Il Pelagio
This is where all the great wine is made
Finally we get to taste the stuff
See how well we navigate after the wine tasting.
This is both the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Leaning Picture of the Leaning
Tower of Pisa.
Marc found Pisa built up his appetite and wants to know how long til lunch. Our
guide, Gloria, is not impressed.
We stop in the hilltop city of Orvieto to see, you guessed it, the Duomo!!
And pose (there's a couple of pork sandwiches in that bag),
Then it's off to Roma.
