BIG BEN

The building (House of Parliment) is distinguished above all by the ornate, gilded clock tower popularly known as Big Ben, which is at its most impressive at night when the clock face is lit up.  Strictly speaking "Big Ben" refers only to the thirteen-ton main bell that strikes the hour(and is broadcast around the world by the BBC), and takes its name from either the original Commissioner of Works Benjamin Hall, or a popular heavyweight boxer of the time, Benjamin Caunt.

This picture is actually 3 pictures spanned and pasted together to get the whole of the parliment.

This is Westminister Abbey.  No pictures are allowed inside.

These 3 were taken across the river near the millenium wheel.   I f you look at the next phot you can see part of that wheel in the distance.

These photos have a funny story behind them.  Imagine a family looking for Big Ben,  Imagine they exit the underground subway to the right of the lamppost.  Now imagine they are trying to get their bearings..they look left and right and do not spot the famous "Big Ben".  Then imagine this family looking up and discovering they were this close to the object they were looking for.
