Giovanni Matteo Quer e' nato il 22.04.1983 a Castelfranco Veneto, dove risiede. La passione per le lingue e le civiltà lo ha portato dalla scuola media e poi al liceo ad acquisirne la conoscenza (inglese, francese e tedesco). In un viaggio a Mauthausen a 12 anni (in 3^ media) ha compreso pienamente l’orrore della Shoah.
Si è avvicinato alle culture ed alle lingue ebraica (che ora padroneggia) e yddish.
Nel 2001 insieme ad un gruppo di amici e conoscenti ha costituito l'Associazione Italia-Israele di Treviso. Ha conseguito la Laurea di Base in Scienze Giuridiche Europee e Transnazionali a Trento con una tesi sugli Ebrei del Birobidgian. Frequenta a Trento il secondo anno di specializzazione. Nel 2003 ha effettuato il suo primo viaggio in Israele, seguito da altri soggiorni. Nel maggio 2005 con IIFWP Middle East Peace Iniziative ha partecipato al convegno "Exploring Innovative Approaches to Lasting Peace and Stability in the Middle East", per diffondere in Italia il dialogo di pace. Da un anno segue a Bolzano il corso FSE “Mediatore dei Conflitti e Operatore di Pace”. Ha svolto lo stage presso il Public Committee Against Torture in Israel con sede a Gerusalemme.
E’ degno di nota il suo obiettivo di espandere una posizione culturale che accetta la dialettica e senza preconcetti (culturali, politici, religiosi) per la ricerca della verità e di una corretta informazione anche sulla situazione israeliana e palestinese.
Nel 2005 ha elaborato con Angelica Calò Livné e sperimentato il progetto “Messaggeri di Pace” – vivere un’esperienza tra Palestina (Betania, presso la casa-accoglienza “Lazarus Home for Girls” gestita da Samar Sahhar araba cristiana) e Israele (Alta Galilea, presso kibbuz Sasa, dove Angelica vive e dirige le attivita' di Beresheet Lashalom per "Educare alla pace attraverso il dialogo" con il gruppo teatrale interetnico e interreligioso Arcobaleno che mette in scena spettacoli educativi). Nel novembre 2005 altri tre giovani (giornalista, fotografi), seguendo l'esempio di Giovanni, hanno partecipato al progetto.
Nel corso per Operatore di Pace la sua testimonianza contro i preconcetti, contro i pregiudizi, contro le prevenzioni ideologiche, politiche e religiose ha assunto punto di forte impatto sia con i corsisti che con alcuni docenti.
Born on 22 April 1983 in Castelfranco Veneto, where he lives. His passion for foreign languages and culture has lead him across the Middle School and High School years to acquire a good knowledge of the English, French and German language and culture.
On a trip to Mauthausen at the age of 12 he fully understood the horrors of the Shoah. He became acquainted with the Jewish culture and language (which he speaks) and Yiddish.
In 2001, with a group of friends and acquaintances, he founded the Italy-Israel Association of Treviso. He obtained the Bachelor Degree in European Transnational Law Sciences in Trento with a dissertation on the Jews of Birobigian. He did his Master Studies in Trento. In 2003 he travelled for the first time to Israel where he returned on several occasions.
In the May 2005, with IIFWP Middle East Peace Initiative he participated in the Convention “Exploring Innovative Approaches to Lasting Peace and Stability in the Middle East” to spread in Italy the culture of peace.
In Bolzano he attended the FSE “Conflict Mediator and Peace Operator”.
In Jerusalem he did an internship at the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel.
Worth noting is his objective of spreading an open-minded mentality without cultural, political or religious prejudices for the sake of truth and impartial information also on the Israeli-Palestinian situation.
In 2005 with Angelica Calò he gives start to the project “Messengers of Peace” – living an experience between Palestinian (Betania, with in the shelter – home “Lazarus Home for Girls” run by Samar Sahhar, Palestinian) and Israel (within the kibbuz Sasa, activity in connection with the interethnic and inter-religious theatre group Arcobaleno – Rainbow specializing in educational shows.
In November 2005 2 photographers and a journalist took part in the project.
While attending the “Operator of Peace” course, his testimony against ideological, political and religious misconceptions and prejudices had a great impact both on the other students and on some of the teachers.
He is founding Bereshitleshaolm in Italy. Deeply involved in the spreading of the education to peace promoted by Angelica and Samar, he writes articles and organizes meetings.
