Vatican Rejects U.S. Abuse Policy
To the shock of victims of sexual abuse by priests and the relief of many clerics, the Vatican Friday declined to approve a tough, new U.S. policy that calls for the removal of any priest who has ever molested a minor.
Instead, it asked a panel of Roman officials and American prelates to go back to the drawing board to reconcile differences over the "one strike and you're out" policy, as many refer to it. A leading U.S. prelate promptly agreed, but said the existing policy would remain in force in the meantime. Newsday.com
