Legolas Greenleaf
This has info about elves in general, but some specific details about Legolas as well. So we'll start with elves. "They live in both worlds at once,- the seen and the unseen." They were among the first speaking races of Middle Earth, but becoming an endangered species in Middle Earth. Many elves are crosssing over the Sea, where they can live forever, away from war. Elves can only be killed in battle or of a broken heart- they know not of sicknes or disease. Tolkien's elves are about 6'3" tall, not the short people that fairytales always portrayed to us. Sindar are the wisest, fairest, and most skilled of the elves of middle earth. Legolas, (Who's name is elvish for Greenleaf or Greenleaves,) was sent to the council of Elrond as a messenger for his father, Thranduil. He is a Silven (or Grey) elf, the Prince of Mirkwood. His language is the Sindarian elvish, with a Silvan accent unique to Mirkwood. Tolkien never specified his age, though there are clues through the books, but the movie told us he is 2,391 years old. According to the books, Legolas is anywhere from 500 to about 800. (This is not known for certain, but the clues in the books lead you in that direction. He was also probably one of the elves serving his father, thranduil at the Battle of the Five Armies. His hair colour was never specified either, but The Hobbit says his father has "golden hair," so, along with the movie, we assume he has blonde hair. Interesting things he as an elf can do include: sleeping with his eyes open, walking on top of snow (no shoe print,) outrunning any other creature, and moving in silence. Not to mention his incredible skills in archery, (two arrows!) horsemanship, singing, and the beautiful language. In addition to his bow and aorrows, Legolas also has two Elven knives, with filigreed blades. Dealy weapons in their own right, for elves make keen blades.
