| What the heck is Theology? |
|||
"Theos" is Greek for God. "Ology" means study or science. I.E. Biology is the science of life, Theology is the science of GOD. In the middle ages Theology was considered the Queen of the sciences. The early University System was designed to give students a unified knowledge of all the sciences. The study of GOD was the factor that tied all the sciences together. Your Biology professors can tell you how anything in the human body works, however if you want to know why it works you need to study Theology. Since Theology brought unity to the sciences it was considered the top dog on campus. At one time the Theologians were the most respected scientists on a University campus. Today being a Theologian can sometimes get you a free lunch, assuming you agree to pick up the tip. Most Universities have actually removed the Theology Departments and replaced them with Religion Departments. This is done mainly because modern man cares little about GOD, but is intrigued with himself. Religion is the study of man not GOD. Of course those of us who are interested in theology can find answers from our local Minister or Priest. Or can we, next time you get your Pastor cornered ask him if you can see the copy of his Systematic Theology. Chances are he won't have one in his office and if he does he never reads it. The study of GOD is like any other science. Those who attempt to construct theologies generally have systems that bring a unity to all the information they gather. Hence the name "Systematic Theology". Like any other scientific system Theology has many different divisions. Each division has a different "Cool" sounding name. In fact if you just learn the names and work them in and out of conversation people will think you are really smart. Across the top of this page you should see the names of the different divisions of Theology. If you would like to know what each of those words means click here!!! |
