| In the coming weeks you will be presented with an opportunity that will determine quality of life for the remainder of your career at Illinois State University. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is a long overdue opportunity to ensure a salary and reward system for nontenure-track faculty that is competitive with our sister institutions.� It is an opportunity to ensure faculty rights, to preserve benefits, and to cultivate a spirit of respect in our academic community.� It is an opportunity to participate in the planning of our future, rather than entrusting ourselves to administrative mandate.� It is a long overdue opportunity to ensure real shared governance on our campus.� It is, at long last, an opportunity to ensure that we have a voice and that our voice is heard. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The opportunity is collective bargaining and the time to act is now. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We, a group of concerned nontenure-track faculty, want to offer you, our friends and colleagues, your legal opportunity to do what our nontenure-track colleagues have done at NIU, EIU, WIU, and other Illinois universities:� the opportunity to organize collectively and gain a place at the bargaining table with our administrators on the vital issues of salary equity, job security, competitive benefits, and related issues.� We believe that we deserve the respect and credibility that only collective bargaining can guarantee. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If you have already made the decision for greater respect and credibility, please mail the enclosed authorization card with your signature today to indicate your support for moving ahead with the collective bargaining process at ISU.� | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The collective bargaining process is determined by State Labor Law as follows: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A minimum of 30% of the nontenure-track faculty (full-time and part-time) must sign cards to authorize an election. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The cards will be filed with the State Labor Board and are strictly confidential.� Under no circumstances will the University have access to the names of nontenure-track faculty who sign the card. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The State Labor Board will determine the date of the election. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Signing the card indicates that you want the ISU Nontenure-track Faculty Association-IEA/NEA to be your bargaining agent. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The card is not a membership form. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| All nontenure-track faculty (full-time and part-time) in the proposed bargaining unit will be eligible to vote in the election. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Voting will be by secret ballot. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The outcome of the election is determined by a simple majority of those who vote. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The election will be conducted by the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
