This is how the Debrecen Dixieland Jazz Band was formed in the end of 1984. The choice of style seemed to be right and we soon became popular at home and abroad. We have also been regular participants of the Debrecen Jazz Days since 1985.
Only two years later the band came to represent Hungary at the Festival of European Radio Union in Tonder (Denmark). In 1989, we played at the Dresden Dixiland Fesival, an outstanding feast of oldtimers music. Since then the band has visited several countries in Europe as well as the homeland of jazz, the USA (two times). Moreover we were regular participants of several jazz and dixieland festivals. Among several radio broadcasts, the last one in 2003 was broadcasted live in 15 countries at the same time.
Owing to our history we play "dixieland old favorites" as well as modern jazz works and our own compositions. Playing in the forms of trio or quartet we perform some of the contemporary music styles as well. Our next target is to form the Debrecen Festival Big Band with 18 members playing evergreens of the big band repertoire.
