Workshop One

The first workshop for Treasurers and Wardens took place at St. Michael & All Angel's in Arnold's Cove on November 19, 2005. The theme was "There are no passengers on God's team. Every member has a vital role to play." It was organized by Mr. Calvin Lockyer, The Rev'd Rowena Wareham, and The Rev'd Lloyd Collett from Unit 2, and Mrs. Blanche Upshall from Unit 1. The workshop opened with prayers, icebreakers and introductions by Rev'd Rowena.

Part One was a Bible Study session that was developed by Calvin on the role of church leaders as per the scriptures. This session was done in small groups with specified scripture readings and questions for the group to discuss.

After a delicious lunch prepared by the ladies' of St. Michael's, the session then broke into two groups - one for Wardens and one for Treasurers. The warden's presentation was lead by Rev'd Collett. The purpose of the Warden's component was to discuss the duties of Wardens as per the Constitution, as well as to offer suggestions on ways to improve communications between the minister and wardens. Throughout this presentation, the wardens asked questions and received very informative answers. All members were given a copy of the Constitution as it relates to wardens and left the session feeling they had learned much, and it had been a worthwhile discussion.

The Treasurer's presentation was lead by Mr. Elridge Thorne, our Parish Treasurer. The purpose of the Treasurer's component was to discuss the responsibility of Treasurers and to be an information session for them. With the use of overheads, Elridge explained the financial structure of the diocese, gave an explanation of all income and expenses, and informed them of the importance of getting their assessments in on time. The treasurers asked many questions and found this session to be very informative and helpful.

The workshop concluded with a presentation from Blanche on ways to improve communication, where we go from here, and ways to attract potential new wardens.
