Church of the Good Shepherd
The Good Shepherd, Norman's Cove

The earliest known church building was built around 1885 and served the Anglican congregation until 1920 when the population outgrew the building. Construction of the first Good Shepherd Church, situated aproximately 300 feet east of the present church, began about 1920 with much free labour being provided. Retired teacher, Thomas French, Norman's Cove, presided over the official opening on December 2, 1923. In May 1928, Bishop C. White consecrated the building.

Construction began in 1966 on a much larger and modern building during the incumbency of The Rev'd E. B. Cheeseman. It was completed and officially opened on February 9, 1968 with the Bishop, The Rt. Rev'd R. L. Seaborn, officiating. It was consecrated on April 25, 1971, during the incumbency of The Rev'd J. Coffin. The Bishop, The Rt. Rev'd R. L. Seaborn, officiated at this service.

The Good Shepherd Interior
An additional twelve feet was added to the southwestern end of the building and a hall created in the basement between 1985 and 1989 during the incumbency of The Rev'd A. Brake.

The Good Shepherd
During completion of the church in 1968, a new electric organ was purchased and donated by the ACW. Since that time, many other items have been donated to the church in memory of loved ones.

The first baptism in this new Good Shepherd Church was Carolyn Michelle Newhook and Lisa Marie Thorn; the first marriage was between Vera Smith and Leonard Pitts; and the first burial was Stephen Thorne, infant son of George and the late Millie Thorne.

Parish of the Holy Spirit Banner
The Good Shepherd Congregation comprises approximately 165 families. The church life consists of a fine choir, ACW, Servers, Altar Guild, a Sunday School, Bible Study, Prayer Group and faithful worshippers.

In 2007, there were 3 Marriages, 1 Baptism, and 2 Burials. Also, 9 youth and 1 adult were confirmed by our Bishop, The Rt. Rev'd Cyrus Pitman. The congregation is served by The Rev'd Moses Tucker, Associate Priest, and a team of dedicated Lay Ministers.
