The congregation of St. Matthew's Church, North Harbour is pleased to report that the new Church building is now up. Construction began in June, 2001, under the direction of Mr. Percy Upshall and a building committee from the congregation. The new structure is 28' by 50', slightly larger than the old church that had fallen beyond repair. The furnishings of the old church are used for the new. Additional side panels was added to the original stained glass . The project was helped by a grant and a loan from the Anglican Foundation of Canada. The building was finished and opened for service on December 22, 2002. The finishing touch was made to the outside when a new tower was installed on the roof on Saturday, May 13, 2006. The old bell was also refurbished and put on a new stand. It was placed outside the Church on the same day that the tower was installed. |
