St. Stephen's Church, Hatchet Cove, Newfoundland

St. Stephen's Church was built jointly by the Anglican and United Church congregations of Hatchet Cove during 1972 and 1973. There were thirteen Anglican and twelve United families at that time.

The first service in the Church was held on November 11, 1973. The Anglican Rector, The Rev'd Gerald Peddle, and the United Church Minister, Rev. J. Massey, officiated at this service. The consecration service was held on December 30, 1973 with the Rt. Rev'd Robert L. Seaborn, Bishop of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador, and Rev. F. J. Adams, United Church Minister, officiating.

At the end of 2005, the United Church congregation folded due to a declining congregation and financial difficulties. There are still thirteen Anglican families supporting the church. These families are strong supporters of their Church, and they plan to keep it operating for as long as possible.

The congregation of St. Stephen's is being served by The Rev'd Nelson Chatman, Associate Priest, The Rev'd Myrna Vey, Deacon, and a team of Lay Ministers.
