Masters of this land   
 
He also cautioned that press freedom must be exercised ethically by taking into consideration social sensitivities in the country.  
 
"These sensitivities do not change with time, social condition and place...in Malaysia, everybody knows that Malays are the masters of this land. We rule this country as provided for in the Federal Constitution. Any one who touches upon Malay affairs or criticises Malays is  (offending) our sensitivities," he said.   
 
Azimi lodged a police report o­n Jan 17, calling for an investigation into an allegedly seditious letter published by malaysiakini two weeks before. The letter, written by a reader under the pseudonym "Petrof", had compared bumiputera to "new Americans" in their treatment of native Americans.  
 
Four days later, the police raided malaysiakini office and seized 19 of its computers. The police action was met with strong condemnation from both local and inernational groups. Fifteen computers have since been returned in batches but the remaining four servers are still with the police.  

Not fighting with malaysiakini
 
In the interview with Siasah, Azimi however said Umno Youth has no intention to "fight with malaysiakini".  
 
"Instead, we lodged a report to fight with Petrof's article...I don't want to comment o­n the police raid but for those in Umno Youth, our job is to do something when people challenged the agenda of our struggle," he said.   
 
Asked why Umno Youth did not reply to the letter but chose to lodge a police report, he said the movement had to first  "stop it from spreading" before it replied.  
 
He said Umno Youth was still considering the invitation by malaysiakini to have a dialogue.  
 
"We haven't decided on that. It is not that we are afraid of them. The question is we need to think of what do we want to achieve out of the dialogue. It will not be good if after the dialogue, they attack us again with their
writings," he said.  

No pressure on PC Suria
 
He denied that there was pressure from Umno in relation to the eviction notice by the landlord of malaysiakini's rented office, PC Suria and the swift police raid.   
 
"Although PC Suria is owned by Umno people, we have nothing to do with the eviction [notice]. We were shocked when we learned about the [notice].  
 
"The police have a high level of professionalism, judging by their ability to solve many cases within a short time. It is not right to say that the police acted fast on malaysiakini just because Umno Youth lodged the report. There were instances where police did not respond to our reports in the past too," he said.  
 
He also denied that his report against malaysiakini was to boost his standing in Umno and strengthen his position in its Youth movement.   
 
"The report could have been lodged by any one of the exco members. But they asked me to because I am the information chief which deals with publication matters," he said.  
 
Meanwhile, in another interview published next to Azimi's, malaysiakini editor-in-chief Steven Gan was quoted as warning that if any charges are pressed against himself or the online daily, there will be serious repercussions on investors' perception about the country's information technology policy.
