I would
like to comment on some of the contents of the
letter
published by malaysiakini, over which Umno Youth had lodged a
police report for seditious tendencies.
The Chinese and Indians are better off in Malaysia compared with their
counterparts in other countries where they are in the minority. Sure,
the special privileges given to Malay Malaysians are unfair. But, ask
too, how the Malay Malaysian who works in a Chinese company fares. Look
at the recruitment section and note the "Mandarin/Chinese speaking
preferred" liner.
The economy is dominated by Chinese Malaysian. There
are more professionals and businessmen whose ethnic background is
Chinese. They all work hard and have the right to enjoy their success.
Why start talking about poor Chinese Malaysians and compare them with
rich Malay Malaysians? Why not compare poor Malay Malaysians to rich
Chinese Malaysians? How do we control favouritism in private businesses?
It is a fact (though I am strongly against it) that
there will always be racial favouritism (note that I'm not referring to
actual discrimination where you have solid proof to bring to court).
I love this country, and I'm sure all Chinese and
Indian Malaysians do too. It is as much their country, as the Malay
Malaysians'. But they should be made to understand the bumiputera
policy. Angry and poor people (especially Malays, when they see other
races becoming richer, not because of their skills, but because they are
a favoured race) will not tolerate to reasoning. Don't make the Malay
Malaysians angry.
Criticise the rest of the government policies but be
careful with the bumiputera affirmative policy. People should be
educated on this and remember the fundamental objectives for it. It is
not to make Malay Malaysians richer but to ensure there's no hatred or
jealousy among Malay Malaysians |
