CLAMP no Miko

The grass was green, the sky was blue, and it was the perfect summer day. CLAMP no Miko (hereafter referred to as CnM) sat in the grass and contemplated her toes. They were blue. Well, the toenails were blue, but close enough. She had no idea how long she'd been there, but she was getting rather bored.

On cue, the scenery changed. CnM blinked and went to put her shoes back on, only to find that they'd disappeared and she was now wearing white bunny slippers. What was stranger was that she seemed to be in a large governmental building where everyone else was wearing suits and ties.

As she was staring at the people, and they at her, a young schoolgirl walked in and passed her, headed for an elevator. CnM watched her as she went, trying to figure out where she'd seen that girl before...

Before she could figure it out, the scene changed again. Now she was looking down upon a great sea, a landmass with a couple mountains and a volcano, and a mount- aaiiieeee! She was falling!

CnM panicked, flailing her arms and squeezing her eyes shut so she wouldn't see the ground getting closer and closer and... someone caught her. The miko opened her eyes to see dark skin, white hair, and very very few clothes.

"Jabberwocky!" she exclaimed, hugging the buxom bat-winged female. Her rescuer didn't say anything, just flew through the sky toward a giant pencil sharpener. CnM blinked, looking a little nervous, but the Jabberwocky didn't seem to look concerned so she just enjoyed the ride. The pencil sharpener loomed closer, larger, darker...

Blink. CnM found herself sitting at a little cafe table across from two high school boys wearing school uniforms and half-gloves. They didn't seem to mind her sudden appearance at all, for they went right on talking with each other about lunchboxes and proposals.

She started to get up, a bit weirded out by the whole conversation, when the scenery blinked again. x.x

Nothingness. She floated upon a sea of nothingness in which there was nothing save herself. No land, no sea, no air... nothing. Not even blackness, just an absense of anything. She was lonely. She didn't like being alone.

That thought confused her. How could she be alone? She was never alone. Always, she had Miko, Sei, Ko, Yvaul, Figment, Dia... everyone. Even that crazy demon who tried to kill her. She was never alone... but now she was. There was no one except herself.

"Hello?" she called, her voice sounding flat and tinny to her ears. "Someone? ... anyone?"

There was no response. She hadn't really been expecting one, but a response would have been nice. To hear another's voice, to see another's face, no matter who it was, it would have been comforting.

She hugged herself forlornly, feeling very small and lost. The feeling of being without anyone, of being all by herself, was terrifying. She hated it, that feeling. She hated being alone.

"Someone.... Grey-kami-sama...."

He was there. She could see him. Though there was nothing else, no landscape, no scenery, no location at all, he was there. Wherever there was. "Grey-kami-sama!"

He didn't respond. She reached out, touched him, and still got no response. Her face fell. He wasn't real, he was only pretend. She couldn't hold him, hug him, ask him if everything would be all right. Because he wasn't real.

She curled up into a ball, shutting her eyes so she wouldn't have to see the false Grey. Her heart ached enough as it was, without the added deception of seeing his form before her, cold and unliving, mocking her. She knew she was a bad miko, but she tried her best, she really did.

Maybe... she just wasn't worthy of him. The forces that ruled the cosmos were letting her know of her unworthiness by seperating her from those that kept her sane. Putting her all by herself.

Alone.
