The
Issaqueena biking trails are part of the Clemson Experimental
Forest. The Experimental Forest has a rich history. The 17,500
acres of land that makes up the Experimental Forest was originally
part of a much larger 29,665 acres obtained in 1930's. The land
was nothing more than old farmland, but through the vision of
Dr. George Aull, the land was transformed into a revived forested
landscape. Although the Experimental Forest acreage was reduced
when Lake Hartwell was created in the 1960's, the creation of
the lake added a new level of beauty to the Experimental Forest.
The vast
trail system that we have today is a combination of fire roads
and carefully planned trails. The Greater Clemson Mountain Bike
Club (GCMBC) along with Forestry and University Officials carefully
plan and maintain the trails. The GCMBC should be especially
thanked for their dedication to the upkeep of the trails. Also
Ian Davidson should especially be thanked as he has been the
mastermind behind some of the most spectacular trails. Frequent
users of the Issaqueena bike trails are encouraged to join the
GCMBC.
