November 20, 2004 (2 days before our 7th anniversary!)
9:22pm. Chilling at the Bag of Beans. Just finished a very satisfying dinner of pumpkin soup, Porterhouse steak, apple pie a la mode and brewed coffee. There's still a bit of pie left and the smell of cinnamon is tempting.Starvation diet starts again next week!!!
Had a chat with one of the waiters when Dex stepped out earlier to fetch my laptop. Found out the rent paid for the Bag of Beans, got the scoop on the owners, learned about the resident cat, Eugene, and its halitosis problem, etc. Dex was amazed at the amount of information I was able to gather within 5 minutes.
We're a couple of minutes away from the Rancho Freva, the inn where we're staying for the night. Ours is a small (but clean) room with a double bed that has one of those really old spring mattresses - the kind that's sure to give you a bad back in the morning, a lumpy couch, a ref we won't bother to use and our very own private balcony with the most fantastic fog-framed view of Taal Lake.
Earlier today we rode the rapids in Pagsanjan. Couldn't help but be amazed at the skill of the boatmen; navigating that river was no joke. It was raining, so the water was a bit murky, but there were waterfalls everywhere, and all I needed to complete the experience was the soundtrack of The Lord of the Rings.
Dex is laughing at me right now; I have the hood of my sweater pulled over my head because it's FREEZING here and I figured covering my ears would help warm me. It works, but Dex thinks I look weird. Here's one of the shots he took. He says I look like one of those shadow people from Star Wars.
The garden doesn't have a lot of lights, but I'm sure it looks pretty in the daytime. Turns out everyone else was dining at another part of the resto. that's why we had our room pretty much to ourselves (and Eugene, and the two guys who came in a few minutes before we left.)

We had a good night's sleep and breakfast at Breakfast at Antonio's. The prices are reasonable (much cheaper than Antonio's!), and the food is EXCELLENT. We had corned beef with sauerkraut, killer horseradish and the spiciest mustard I've ever tasted, and the bestest (as my daughter would put it) waffle with chocolate chips: crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside (parang Mentos).
The weather's been very kind to us. When we woke up this morning there was light rain, and the fog was thick on the road. (Dex described it as soupy fog; I now know what a crouton feels like. =).) But before we reached Nurture Spa the rain was gone, and the sky cleared as we were having our Romantic Interlude (at 10% off because it was our anniversary).
It's the first time we've had a couple's massage. And it just might be the last. I wasn't able to sleep after my facial because Dex was snoring beside me, and I couldn't wake him up because my face was covered with cucumber slices. =(
Lunch was included in the package. For the main dish I had Fish Mediterranean and Dex had Bengal Curry. Cute names, no? Sounded exotic. We have a friend who said the food in Nurture Spa is like canteen food. Well, it is lacking in terms of presentation, and the rice wasn't very well-cooked, but the Oriental salad dressing is yummy, and I couldn't really complain about my fish, which I finished. The curry wasn't bad, either. What I didn't like was that dessert was just a slice of mango and 2 pieces of pineapple. No unsinful dessert can ever be satisfying. I like their coffee, though. in fact I had 2 cups (free refill! yipee.).
At our Ifugao House right now. We have another 45 minutes before we have to pack up and go back home. We must have spent over 10,000 pesos in the last 2 days. But it was all worth it. =)
