ISS Pro 98 was hyped up everywhere after its release and you can see why, the gameplay is truly excellent.

The menu screens are basic and the music is pretty dire but hey, you can't have everything. The player names are fictitious but you have the option to edit them which is good. There are enough options available including penalties, training, friendly matches, cup and league tournaments and you can team up with the computer or with a friend. The game has all the decent international teams but no domestic leagues or club teams which is a shame.

The match itself loads quickly and once there you can choose the stadium and weather conditions. You also have the option to change tactics and formation, there are plenty to choose from.

The match starts with a close-up of the two teams lining up for battle and Tony Gubba introduces the game although the commentary is very disappointing with little emotion shown. I'd rather hear John Motson any day.

The graphics are good and the players and stadiums look very realistic, the players all have different hair-styles, height and build so you can distinguish between them. I like the way the players move and the ball physics are spot on too, including the deflections and blocks. It looks as though you're actually watching TV. In Fifa and Actua Soccer the ball seems to bounce in a strange way at times and the players are as rigid as wood. Scoring a goal is great, the players celebrate, the fans go wild and a slow-motion replay is shown from any angle of your choice, you can see the net bulge as the ball hits it.

The controls in ISS Pro are fairly straight forward with one button for chip pass, one for short pass, one for shoot and another for sprint. There are extra buttons used for tactical moves as well so there is enough here for any gamer. The gameplay is tremendous and the player feels as though they have total control over their team.

Any football fan should own this game for its sheer football feel and superb gameplay. I can't wait for the next ISS title which will be out very soon.
