| This fun and interesting bit was relayed down the line from a Disneyland special Guest Relations staff member sharing interesting stories about their interactions with various celebrities at the world-famous park with their friend. Luckily for us, the friend of the staff member decided to share this with others and...here we are! Robbie's tale was amongst the Disneyland celeb visit stories told, and his actually made some Disneyland history! It was the year 2000 and the park was celebrating its 45th anniversary with a parade called "Parade Of The Stars" and a fantastic fireworks show called "Believe". Guest Relations assigned an escort to Robbie who took him on all the rides, which he enjoyed. But the highlight and history-making part of the day came when it was time for the parade. During this year, Disneyland invited 45 selected guests to participate in the parade as performers. They were given animal head hats and tutus to wear. Yes - even the males had to wear the tutus! They were then given some quick dancing lessons to prepare them for their performance, and were encouraged to act as silly as possible! Robbie decided he had to be part of this! His Guest Relations escort advised against this due to the fact that, despite that he was just then beginning to catch on to the American public and he was still mostly unknown to Americans at that time (this was soon to change!), he may be recognized and mobbed afterward. Robbie - being Robbie - insisted on going for it anyway! He put on the tutu with the other selected participants and danced around with the Disney characters - being utterly silly for all the park to see - and loving every minute of it! It turned out he was not recognized. But, by doing this, he had made Disneyland history by being the very FIRST celebrity to join in a Disneyland parade unannounced, unplanned, and unpublicized - as an ordinary guest - and the very FIRST celebrity to actually PERFORM in one!! (as opposed to merely putting in a planned appearance and just sitting there waving) He capped off his day by sitting on the rooftops of the attractions buildings to watch the fireworks show - something no other guests get to do! Robbie and his friend then ended the tour and were joined by another unknown male Disneyland member who was quite obviously a personal friend of Robbie's and apparantly just off his work day, but left the park with Robbie and his other friend. However, the adventure continued as neither Robbie nor his guest friend nor his Disneyland staff friend remembered where they had parked upon arrival, and Guest Relations had to drive them all over the various parking lots to find their auto! Sometime later, they did, finally! And that was Robbie Williams' contribution to Disneyland history! |
