Part 4 Better Served Cold

Lij had never tasted a man. It was a new experience for him, like finding an exotic fruit. He swirled his tongue around Dom, and heard him groan, and saw him clench his fists into the bed linen.

He dipped down between the trembling legs, and cradled the velvet globes he found there. He fondled them with his hands. Gods, this was wonderful!

Lij thought about what Menkh had told him was to be found in the passage, and he wet his finger in the corner of his mouth, not taking his lips from Dom for a moment.

The man was helpless beneath him. His breath coming in short gasps, his eyes shut. Suddenly he opened them, and looked down at Lij sucking him as if he had been doing it for years.

"Holy Mother Isis! Don't stop! Oh, Gods!"

Lij smiled around his throbbing mouthful, as he pushed the finger in.

A huge cry erupted from Dom's throat as the finger touched something at his core. It touched him, again, and Dom soared up to the heavens, clutching Lij's hair in one hand, and the sheet with the other.

Lij, on the receiving end of the eruption, received a mouthful of warm creaminess, which he duly swallowed.

He moved up Dom's still twitching body for a kiss. Dom tasted himself on Lij's lips, and smiled into his mouth. Dom pushed his tongue inside and licked the soft tender tissues, tasting the hot breath, the urgent desire.

Lij had never kissed anyone like this before. The tender probings of Dom's tongue nearly drove him mad. He felt as if he was on fire.

Lij groaned. "Your king has a need that will not wait. Do I need to command you?"

Dom wasted no more time, but sank down the bed, and engulfed Lij in wet warmth. Almost immediately Dom's mouth was filled - Lij was making noises like a cat on a bakestone. Dom smiled inwardly. He knew of many more ways to make the Pharaoh squeal.

They lay there in the rumpled linen, just talking. Dom told Lij about his life on a distant green grassed island, his capture by the slavers, and his journey through many countries, culminating in his arrival at the Hurrian citadel. If he kept any important details of his life to himself, that was his business.

Lij described his father to Dom. He talked about his life as a child, and he spoke about his family, and his sister/wife with great affection.

They rose from the bed, and went to the bath, splashing each other with the water, naked as two river boys, and laughing, dried each other in the soft linen towels.

Dom suddenly raised his hand to his eyes, and stumbled into Lij, who grasped him around the waist, and guided him back to the bed. He made Dom sit on the edge while he clumsily tidied the linen.

Dom was grateful to put his head down on the pillow.

"I will call for some food," Lij murmured, as he pulled the sheet over Dom's lower body." You need to eat, and rest - and so do I. It has been a long day."

He kissed Dom, and went to bang the gong by the door. Pen-Nekeb came scuttling in. Lij gave his slave a warning look. Nekeb was not stupid. Even if he had been listening - and, judging by his heightened colour, he had - he would not reveal anything he may have heard. To lose more body parts would be - unfortunate.

"Food and wine, Nekeb - and quickly," Lij ordered, sitting on a chair beside the bed.

"You may move the table here." Lij cast a worried glance at Dom, who was, once more, looking pale.

"Can you eat a little?" Lij asked him in a low voice, rubbing his hand down a nicely muscled thigh, as the food was placed on the table.

"I will try, Lord", Dom said, quietly.

Far away, in his room on the other side of the palace, the physician, Setep - Aton knelt before a statue of the god, Set, Lord of Darkness. His mind was a turmoil of hatred and despair.

His son was dead, and now he had been robbed of his grandson and daughter-in-law, snatched from him in a catastrophic premature birth that tore the mother to ribbons, and choked the life out of her baby before he could be cut, living, from his mother's corpse.

"I will have vengeance, Lord. A life for a life. He shall not prevail, here. I will have him...his life for my son - all this I swear!"

Setep-Aton seemed to hear a growl of approval from the statue. He had permission, then. His actions were sanctioned. He would not rush. He would take his time. It would be worth it. Knefer-Lijedefer - may his bowels rot within him - would die, but he would suffer greatly first. It had been ordained.

*

Knefer-Lijedefer walked about the palace with a new spring in his step, and a warm glow in his vitals. He knew the cause of this new heat - Sen-Adom, newly appointed Musician to the Court, an honoured title. Sen-Adom, bringer of delight and creator of bliss. The Pharaoh smiled. The gods had indeed blessed him.

The altar of Set, Lord of Darkness, grew heavy with offerings and fragrant with incense, while unknown to the Pharaoh, at the back of the palace in a small apartment darkened by evil intentions, a man's pain was ameliorated by the fervent thought of vengeance upon his king.
