| Presidential Trivia Quiz Question #22 | ||||||||||
| Who was the only President to live and die in the 18th Century? George Washington (1st President, 1789-1797) Born 1732, died 1799. Regarding Washington's birthdate, it should be known that, in 1752, Great Britain finally moved from the Julian (Old Style, or O.S.) to the Gregorian (New Style, or N.S.) calendar, which resolved virtually all the shortcomings of the older Julian and is still the calendar system we use today. The New Style calendar required the adding of eleven days in order to bring the heretofore Julian users into conformance with the Gregorian. Thus, Washington's birthday is February 22, 1732 (N.S.) - which we use today - but February 11, 1732 (O.S.) is what he used for about the first 20 years of his life. |
