The branding of President Clinton as a traitor further betrays ignorance of the Constitution, specifically of Art. III, Sec. 3, which states "[t]reason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort." There is no evidence that Clinton has committed any treasonous acts (as opposed to merely stupid ones); he has been neither tried nor convicted of anything; and he escaped impeachment by a wide margin. The characterization of President Clinton as a "traitor" has been trumpeted by conservatives for years in the hope that, by saying it enough times, it will become true. Indeed, it would become true no other way. |
