CONTESTANT INFORMATION
1.  There will not be a rigid schedule set for rehearsals.  Rehearsals will begin ~ 4 weeks prior to the event and will be held over the weekends based on everyone's schedule.  You should attend at least one rehearsal.  These rehearsals will be for the group dance, and modeling segments.

2.  The male and female contestants compete against each other in their respective age categories with the male and female achieving the highest scores being crowned as the winners.  The competitive areas of the competition are:  Introduction (30 seconds max - tell something about yourself), Caribbean Wear (typical attire for the Caribbean island/country you are representing), Talent (5 minutes max; does not have to be a Caribbean talent), Formal Wear (does not have to be a Caribbean formal wear) and Educational Forum (2 minutes max; brief speech based on research you did about the Caribbean island/country you are representing).

3.  The non-competitive area is the group dance.  The group dance attire is the island fire t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans (long or short) with no shoes.  You are responsible for purchasing your own attire.

4.  This is not a beauty competition.  The main purpose of this pageant is to provide an outlet for the community to learn about the Caribbean culture and to help maintain the culture for those of Caribbean descent that are here in the US.  The judges are looking for originality, creativity and uniqueness etc. not who has the most expensive or prettiest attire.

5.  All contestants will receive a letter stating their participation in the pageant.  This can be used to obtain sponsorship.  As a thank-you to sponsors, a link to their company's website will be placed on the pageant's website and their name, physical address and phone number will be placed on the program.

6.  If there is something that you would like to know that is not addressed, please don't hesitate to contact me by phone (919) 961-2629 or e-mail (
[email protected]).  The only way that you would know for sure is to ask.

7.  Remember, you DO NOT have to be a native of the Caribbean; however, you have to have some form of exposure to the Caribbean culture via personal experience, upbringing, knowledge gained from family/friends or research.  The Island Fire Pageant is looking for you, come on and join the fun!

8.  I am currently recruiting male and female contestants between the ages of 10 and 45.  There is a maximum of 6 contestants per each age category.  Deadline for registration is June 1st.
