2010 MCADAM STATION PROPOSAL

THE GOAL The management of the Island Central Railway New Brunswick Division could be interested in entering into a project partnership with a proven model builder, which would see the McAdam Station "restored" to all its glory in miniature on the Island Central Railway by the spring of 2010. The proposal would result in a replica of the full scale formerly CPR structure (less one window/dormer length) constructed to 90% HO scale on the present ICR McAdam station site. It would have an actual foot print (masonite base) in real measurement of 35" by 8" including the paved platforms on all sides. The peak of the roof over most parts of the station would be 8" above the platform level. Two Parts of the structure will be higher.

STATION TECHNICAL DATA

1. The station would be built of a quality superior to the current stand in, closely replicating the prototype's stonework, window style, traditional CPR paint schemes and other visible details.

2. The appropriate walls, doors etc should be in place on the main floor and detailed. The major rooms should be painted and furnished as in the prototype. The upper floors do not need interior walls or other interior details. The waiting room, lunch counter, baggage room and ticket office should be lit.

3. The station roof will be easily removable to see the interior of each detailed room, specifically the baggage and express rooms, waiting room and ticket office and lunch counter restaurant.

4. The platform roofs should include 12 or 14 volt lighting and be detailed where visible.

5. The matching communications building still standing immediately west of the station should be measured and replicated in 90% HO scale to be placed with the main structure.

STATION SITE DATA

1. The present HO mainline and station platforms running along the south side of the current ICR station will be removed by management. A new mainline will run around the station site making space for the replica to be correctly placed between the tracks and with a platform on both the north and south sides.

2. A second track will also be installed north of the station, as was the case with the CPR arrangement.

3. The former Imperial Oil, Irving Oil and salt shed spurs may also be installed north of the station. and new mainline. The unprototypical main street scene (from Wilderness Park days) will be removed.

4. The Vanceboro road, as with the prototype, will curve away from the station (into the aisle) west of the station and station access from McAdam's main street (The aisle) will be by a level crossing at the east end of the station

5. Asphalt platform extensions will curve east and west from the two station tracks as in the prototype.

PARTNERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

1. The station would be built to specifications on a 35" by 8" masonite base which could be moved occasionally for display at other locations by the builder or railway management.

2. The communications building will be built on its own foundation sized base and be portable.

3. Management will pay the builder for all required construction materials.

4. The builder may choose to build the platform extensions to assure a match with the main base platforms but the extension platforms would not be portable once installed on the ICR site.

5. The builder might choose to detail a portable club module on which to display the replica during club shows. Railway management will loan the station to the builder for short periods for that purpose, except during ICR layout operating times and during ICR layout open houses and visitations. The replica will normally be housed on the ICR McAdam site.

6. ICR Management will loan HO scale (90%) building plans and prototype pictures to the builder for use in the construction phase.

7. The builder may choose to document and photograph the construction of the station for publication, contests or such. Any awards or remunerations received by the builder from such efforts will be totally the property of the builder. Management will have no claim on such.

8. The station and communications building will become the property of ICR management upon placement at the ICR McAdam site.

9.   An appropriate sign will be put in place near the station on the ICR identifying the builder.

Management would be interested in discussing the possibilities of this project with other model builders.
