AL-MUHAJIROUN

The decline of Muslims represented by the destruction of the Khilafah, and the existence of regimes which implement kufr, along with the occupation of Muslim land by the kufaar saw the Ummah of Rasoolullah (SAW) become an example of shame, disunity and bloodshed. Such occurrences led a group of scholars from Syria and Pakistan, to initiate a comprehensive and concentrated effort to see why the Muslim Ummah had reached such a low level. The Ijtihad established by them, namely the ultimate solution to the decline of the Ummah, led them to establish Al-Muhajiroun, in response to the command of Allah (SWT): " Let there arise out of you a group(s) inviting for Al-Khair (which is Islam) ordering what is right and forbidding what is wrong. They are the ones who are successful" [EMQ 3:104].

These scholars established certain points:

1) Allah (SWT) says in the translated meaning of Sura Ar-Ra'd, ayah 11: " Allah does not change the state of people until they change what is within themselves ". It is understood that change for the Ummah has to be collective, namely the whole Ummah should change collectively rather than individually. In addition the nature of this change should be in the concepts and emotions in the Ummah and adopted comprehensively and radically.

2) The Muslim Ummah has numerous problems like disunity which is exhibited through regimes ruling by non-Islam, the occupation of Muslim land by the Kufaar and the general social, economic and moral degradation in our societies. When studying all of these problems whether personal or societal, it is clear that all of them are symptoms of the ultimate and fundamental problem of the absence of Dar ul-Islam or Al-Khilafah.

3) The Muslim Ummah did not reach such a humiliating status in one lapse. Rather it was due to many factors accumulating over a long time and effectively based around the correct understanding of Islam being drained away. Reasons for this misunderstanding included:

- Translation of Greek philosophy into Arabic in the early second century of Hijra.

- The negligence and separation of the Arabic language from Islam.

- Conspiracies by some people claiming to be Muslims in the early decades of Islam.

4) The requirement to establish the Khilafah is an obligation upon the Muslim Ummah.

The methodology to achieve such a status quo can be seen from the Seerah (Life) of the Prophet (SAW). It is seen clearly that the life of Muhammad (SAW) as a Prophet was 23 years long. Of that 13 years were spent in Mecca whilst the other 10 years were spent in Medina. From his life it is seen that in Medina the Prophet was the head of the first Islamic state where the implementation of Islam as a comprehensive system was present. The Prophet's life in Mecca therefore becomes of crucial significance to see how he eventually established the first Dar ul-Islam in Medina. It is clearly seen that the Prophet (SAW) worked with a clearly defined methodology given to him by revelation from Allah (SWT). The actions the Prophet (SAW) undertook included the establishment of a group of individuals who were cultured with Islam, propagation to change the kufr society and its public opinion through intellectual struggle by the Prophet and his party and the seeking of support from influential tribes to deliver the authority to Muslims to establish a state. (This methodology will Insha’llah be discussed in more detail in succeeding issues). Al-Muhajiroun clearly emphasises that this part of the life of the Prophet (SAW) in Mecca is the principal source of the methodology to be adopted. It can be seen that:

A. Any movement or party must work to deal with the source of all problems rather than dealing with the symptoms which are apparent. For example, the problem in Palestine should not be discussed in isolation to other problems. Whether it is Palestine or Bosnia, they both remain as symptoms of not having the means of protection as defined by Islam, namely the state. The efforts lie therefore in establishing that state. This therefore is the solution to our problems. The symptoms are used however to relate the problem to the roots and create an awareness by example, like that of Palestine, to prove the nature of the conspiracy by the kuffar and their puppet rulers and also the Islamic solution to this problem.

B. Because the Muslim Ummah is lacking in understanding Islam in the correct manner, Al-Muhajiroun has adopted culture based on Qur'an and Sunnah covering the issues of Aqeedah, the systems required to implement Islam e.g. economic, political... and understanding of Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) and the kufr ideologies that are existent within the Ummah, amongst many other topics.

C. Al-Muhajiroun's activity quickly spread to surrounding countries, until now where it's work is known internationally. Its call is directed to removing the puppet rulers in the Muslim world and to establish the Khilafah. As a result Al-Muhajiroun has suffered hardship and tests, but this is expected since this is the nature of the struggle between Islam and Kufr.

It is important to acknowledge that Al-Muhajiroun is founded and calls for that based on Islam, and is working to liberate lands from kufr and to implement Islam, something which is first displayed in liberating minds, emotions and the public opinion within the Muslim Ummah.

Al-Muhajiroun calls the whole Ummah to reject all forms of kufr in our lives whether political, economic, educational, social or militaristic.
