Two years ago lying in a hospital bed with a freshly sewn gash marring my belly, I discovered the true meaning of mercy.  Nestled against my shoulder was the most adorable newborn imaginable…my son.  There he lay against me sometimes napping, sometimes hollering, even then always moving, a totally innocent being completely relying on me for survival, unequivocally at my mercy.
It occurred to me at that moment that the human race just like a newborn is entirely reliant on what some call destiny others call fate, but what ultimately comes down to a divine power…God's will.  We are at His mercy in all things and all ways, relying on Him for guidance in our hour of desperation, praying to Him for inspiration in our times of blankness, calling on Him to help us succeed and prosper, and questioning Him during our grief, and whether consciously or not feeding off His infinite mercy.
This is a column dedicated to the mercy of God, a place where stories of His mercy can be shared and its effects on our lives realized, for indeed He is our
Merciful Lord.
