Sado Island
In August, I went to Sado ("saw-doe") Island with some other ALTs and their visiting friends to check out the annual Earth Celebration.  My main reason for going was that Kodo does a three evening concert (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) during this festival.  I have been listening to Kodo for a couple of years now and I love them, so it was a true thrill to see them live.  We went on Sunday, which was a combined show with Kodo and their guest group, some African drummers.  It was incredible (to read more about the concert, check out my Journal page).  For those who don't know, Kodo is a taiko drumming group from Japan.  They are from Sado Island specifically, so I was able to see them on their home land, which was incredible in and of itself.  You may also check them out at their website (www.kodo.com) to read more about them.  Photography is not allowed at their concert, so I don't have any pictures of the actual concert, which is a shame, but I do have some nice shots of Sado and my friends here.
The three "blue" pictures were taken at about 4:45 on Sunday morning (I couldn't sleep, camping on the beach).  The blue is not a result of some poor camera work, it really looked like that.  It was pretty impressive, and the sound of the ocean was incredible.
Me and my big Stick O' Meat.  It was a bit expensive, but I just had to try one.  And get the picture, of course.
Some drummers at the street festival.  This was kind of like Boise's Art in the Park, for those of you familiar with that.  This was much smaller though.
A "demon" doing his thing in a street performance at the Earth Celebration.  He spent a fair amount of time scaring little kids, and I think he enjoyed it a lot.  That is, when he wasn't getting out-danced by the "hero."  Here he's fighting a whole crowd of awkward dancers, and I think he's winning.  At least he looks cooler.  And he has a better pose.
Before the concert:  A giddy, sunburnt Ryan, complete with warped-looking neck.  Hey, I was taking the picture myself, so that's what you get.
Before the concert:  Tania, Tom and Jenny.  Tom and Jenny are friends of Pat and Tania.  They met teaching English in Korea a couple of years ago.
