Iske�e, (Read as Iskeche in English) is one of the three prefectures situated in Western Thrace of Greece, between Kavala and G�m�lcine (Komotini in Greek).
Western Thrace is bordered on the North by Bulgaria, on the South by the Aegean Sea, on the east by T�rkiye and on the west by Macedonia.
The city of Iske�e being inhabited mostly by Turkish population until the first quarter of the 20th century is known for its finest tobacco, grown mostly around the village of Kire��iler by Turkish tobacco growers.
Turks have settled in Western Thrace in the twelfth century. Since then the population of Iske�e has been mainly Turkish until very recent years.
The city is consisted mainly of two parts one being the old city and the second, the new city. The old city is inhabited mainly by Turkish population and the new city mostly by Greeks. The numerous traditional Turkish houses in the old city, make the city one of the most beautifull cities of Greece. The symbol of Iske�e is the tower situated in the centre of the city. The tower was built by "Haci Emin Aga" during the Turkish rule.
