Fallen Angel, Chapter 3: The Uninvited
Phantasm...
Is it a nightmare? Is it an illusion? Is it an evil? Is it a fantasy? Is it alive?
Whatever it is, if this one doesn't scare you...you're already dead.

\The scene opens in Denver, Colorado. It's Sunday night. Both Rodney and Phantasm rested before catching a flight Sunday morning. Rodney is still trying to talk Phantasm out of it, even though now more than ever it is hopeless./

Rodney: I keep telling you Phantasm, Angel does not want to be found. She hasn't spoken to me, you, anyone. She's not going to be here.

\Phantasm glares at Rodney. Dead end or not, Phantasm feels like he has to try. They are now making their way to a rent-a-car which Rodney has rented shortly after they arrived. Phantasm loads his and Rodney's baggage into the trunk and climbs into the passenger side. Luckily for Phantasm the car is bigger. Rodney's actual car isn't spacious enough for the monster at times./

Rodney: Listen Phantasm, I know where she lives and it's not actually in Denver, just outside of it. It's going to be a long drive.

\Phantasm nods. The car starts and they begin to pull out. The drive is long, as Rodney said. This gives Phantasm time to think. He thinks about his debut in HWA, how he came to be a professional wrestler. He thinks about all of the people he has defeated. James Wade, Corona, Norm, Brock Walleye, Rhuid, Dillen Jaymes, Freakman, Q-Ball, and recently, Achilles, who is a tag team champion. So many people have entered the ring with Phantasm and left different than they were before. Phantasm now hopes to add "The Rebel" Chris Gage to this list. The match is title for title and Phantasm has every intention of becoming a double champion, as well as advancing for the oppurtunity to become the World Heavyweight Champion. Within a month he could very well have three different titles. Suddenly the car jerks and Phantasm lifts his head up./

Rodney: We're here.

\Apparantly Phantasm's thoughts took more time than he thought. He feels groggy so he shakes his head to wake himself up. He climbs out of the car and sees the home of Angel of Mercy. It is not as big as he thought it'd be. He expected a mansion. There are no cars in the area though. Phantasm thinks the search may be for nothing, but wants to see anyway. Rodney gets out of the car and stops Phantasm as he begins to walk towards the door./

Rodney: You'd better let me go. Angel didn't know you that well and no offense, but if you were at my door and I didn't remember you...you're big and scary, okay?

\Phantasm nods and Rodney goes up to the door alone. He raps lightly on it and waits for a moment, then he knocks harder. He also tries the doorbell. Phantasm lowers his head. How could he be so stupid? Phantasm wanted so desperately to believe that his personal sins would be retributed that he went along with what was obviously a hoax. He sees Rodney approaching him./

Rodney: It's a good thing this is a round-trip flight. We've wasted our time you know.

\Phantasm nods slowly. He can feel despair in the fact the dead-end turned up. But at the same time he also feels determination and anger. The anger is directed at whoever sent that letter./

Rodney: I have an idea of who did this, you know.

\Phantasm's hands clench up. He has an idea too./

Rodney: No I don't think it was Cross. He's an asshole but he would start messing with you for no reason.

\Phantasm lets the logic sink in and concludes that Rodney is correct. He turns his head towards Rodney and relaxes. Rodney continues./

Rodney: No I think it was Chris Gage.

\Phantasm thinks for a moment, then nods. It seems likely. He gets tense again./

Rodney: Makes me mad too. I had this suspicion ever since I picked up the letter and saw there was no return address. I mean Angel wouldn't find us at whatever arena we are at and slip and envelope under our door then fly back here.

\Phantasm lets out an inaudible sigh. It was starting to make sense. He let his emotions get away with him and now they're at Angel's house in Denver, with no Angel, and they have to fly all the way back for his match./

Rodney: This match is literally a winner take all match. You could win a title and advance in the tournament, or you could not only be eliminated, but lose your devil's ring title and no longer be undefeated. And trust me Phantasm, if people know you've been defeated, you'll lose that "monster" aura for a bit. May not be long, but it'll be enough to hurt people's perspective on you. You're not weak Phantasm, but if you were to lose here people would see you as that. You have something to gain and everything to lose. I know that...

\Phantasm looks at him and nods again./

Rodney: And you know that. Gage knows it too. He doesn't want to lose his TV title and for all we know he doesn't want to face you. I mean, I heard people talking. That match with Achilles cemented any impressions that you were a violent monster. There is no doubt now. Whether Gage will admit it or not I think he's scared of you. So if he beats you by forfiet, all the better for him.

\If Phantasm felt like it, he'd laugh. The thought that someone would try to get him away so they wouldn't have to fight him was funny. But he was also angry. Gage had tried to manipulate him. He didn't like that. He made a decision to make Gage pay for this trick. The monster walks around to the passenger side of the car and climbs in. Rodney takes the hint and gets into the driver's side and starts it up./

Rodney: Can't blame him for being scared though. He's a lot smaller than Achilles and if you did to him what you did to Achilles...well he'd have a lot more problems than being an ex-Television champion.

\Rodney laughs and pulls the car out of the driveway and they go down the road. The ride seems longer this time. Phantasm cannot wait to get back to the airport and arrive at the show. It seems his string of opponents since his return have all wanted to play mind games. Achilles tried to get inside his head by going to a mental ward and beating up a patient. Gage was trying to play with some emotional issues that Phantasm is going through. He made Achilles pay. Now it was Gage's turn. After twenty minutes or so they are back at the airport. Not the terminal just the rent-a-car place next door. Phantasm sees some police lights but ignores them. Rodney has gotten back with the luggage and hands Phantasm his bag./

Rodney: Well let's get back. You've got yourself a television title to win.

\Rodney rarely seems eager for Phantasm to destroy someone. But with an entire day wasted thanks to Gage, the monster understands why he would be. They begin to walk towards the airport and see a large group of people standing outside the terminal. There are police officers, firemen, and even what appears to be a bomb squad truck parked outside. Phantasm turns his head towards Rodney who just shrugs and mutters "I have no idea". Rodney sets down his bag and heads towards the front. Phantasm decides to go too, so he just picks the bag right back up and carries them both on his shoulders. Someone is standing on a police car trying to talk with the angry crowd, who seems ready to riot. Phantasm gets closer and the voice becomes more and more clear../

Officer: ...was called in. I repeat, a bomb threat was called in. In this day and age we have to take these things seriously. Especially in a big city airport like this one. We have to search the entire airport and probably the surrounding places. It may take hours but we'll try to get it done as quick as possible so you all can go to your destinations. We apologize for the delay.

\Murmurs from the crowd are deafening as Phantasm himself doesn't know what's going on, but knows he could be late for his matchup. He may not make it. He tenses up with anger at the thought that he could possibly lose everything by forfiet due to this problem........../ TO BE CONTINUED....
