Driving me Crazy Gold stepped quietly into the cavernous Dragon's Den, looking for Silver, his red-haired rival. He knew from previous experience that the other boy wanted to be left alone, but he had been absent from their routine battles lately and Gold's heart was beating with worry and trepidation for the other boy. He called out Silver's name, echoing along the Den's stone walls, and when there was no answer, he walked further inside. Still no response. Suddenly, Gold approached a wide stretch of water which blocked his way. Determined, he pulled a pokeball from his belt and threw it into the air with a cry. "Go Poliwhirl!!" In a flash of red light, a Poliwhirl appeared and landed into the water with a splash. It swam up to Gold side eagerly with love in its eyes. "Hi, Poliwhirl!" Gold greeted, patting the pokemon's wet head between its' eyes. "I need you to Surf me to the Dragon Shrine up ahead. Can you do it?" The Poliwhirl squealed happily and splashed the water with its' oversized hands. "Poli, poli, whiir!!" (Hi, Gold!! Sure I can do that!) (1). Gold climbed onto his pokemon's back and together, they crossed the water and swam up to the Dragon Shrine. As the boy got onto dry land once more, he recalled his pokemon back into its' ball. Then, he cupped his hands together and began to walk around the Shrine, calling his rival's name. "Silver!! Silver, where are you?!" An uneasy feeling began to build up in the pit of Gold's stomach when he didn't receive an answer to his call. He repeated his walk around the Shrine twice, but still no answer. Finally, he decided to enter the Shrine and see if he could find Silver inside. As he looked inside, he was amazed at how neat and clean everything was. Gold had long ago assumed that Silver, like him, was a slob. Pushing that thought out of his mind, he frantically continued his search for the red-head. The boy's absence was starting to really eat at him for some strange reason. A whimpering sob clued Gold into his rival's location and he moved carefully towards the closed door where the sound had originated from. Slowly and softly, he cracked the door open wide enough to see Silver's form in the gloomy darkness of the room. The other boy was curled up in a ball and small choking sobs were coming from his throat. Something clutched at Gold's heart when he heard those sounds and he frowned, confused at those feelings. He walked into the room to get a closer look at his rival in the dim light. "Silver, are you alright? You didn't answer me." "Just go away", the redhead replied in a hoarse whisper. He couldn't just leave Silver alone, certainly not in the condition he was in right now. He walked farther into the room, kneeling down on the floor next to the bed. Softly, he touched Silver's arm, but the other boy stiffened and pulled his arm away with a stiff jerk. "Don't touch me. Just leave me alone." His voice was tight and raw, but full of anger. In the gloom, he saw Silver's face was miserable and upset. But that didn't relieve the sting from his words and Gold reacted strongly to them. "Jeez, I was just worried about you. You don't have to be such a jerk about it." He gave Silver a dirty look as he got to his feet. "SHUT UP!! What do you know about me?!" Silver grabbed Gold's arm in a vise-like grip, and shoved him to the floor. Gold hit the floor in a heap and winced in pain as Silver tackled him moments later. He shoved the taller, heavier boy off of him, and kicked at him fiercely, a low growl coming from his throat. Silver smoothly rolled away from Gold's attacking legs and gracefully pushed himself into a crouching position. He braced himself by his hands as he glared at Gold, who glared back just as much from his sprawled position a few feet away. "I know you're just a bully and I'll always beat you, no matter what!" Gold replied. He wasn't prepared for Silver's second tackle and was pinned underneath him. The red-haired boy lashed out, punching him in the ribs repeatedly. "I hate you!! I HATE YOU!!" Silver sobbed angrily as he hit Gold. Gold struggled to release himself from Silver's grasp, but found that no matter what, he couldn't. Silver was much stronger than him and had him in an iron grip. The punches the redhead threw grew weaker and weaker, until the boy collapsed, sobbing against Gold's chest. Gold blinked in surprise, realizing what a compromising position he was in. Yet whenever he shifted to free himself, Silver would cling to him like a lifeline. His heart was beating faster as Silver got closer and he noticed himself wrapping his hands around Silver's waist, enjoying the proximity of the other boy. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you, Gold. Please, please don't leave me alone!" Silver's voice was pleading, and lost the normal bragging harsh tone it usually had to it. He burrowed his face into Gold's orange and white shirt, searching for shelter. Gold didn't reply, but his eyes softened and he pulled the redhead just a little closer to him. Softly, he stroked Silver's satiny smooth, clean smelling hair, comforting the other boy. Somehow, this felt right to him, to have this other boy in his arms, so close. Time passed and Gold noticed that Silver's breathing had lapsed into the slow, deep rhythm of sleep. Careful not to wake the other boy, Gold reluctantly slipped out of Silver's arms and wistfully gazed at his rival's sleeping figure. He scooped Silver up into his arms and placed him in bed, tucking him in gently like his mother would have when he was younger. Gold kneeled next to the bed once again, watching Silver sleep, the other's chest rising and falling, red hair spilling across the pillow softly. So beautiful, Gold thought, an easy smile coming across his lips. Never seen him like this before. He's like an angel. With a light sigh of enjoyment, Gold brushed a wave of red hair away from the sleeping boy's face, pausing when his thumb brushed against a smooth cheek. Little shivers danced up his spine at that slight touch and he drew back, totally confused. Why did Silver make him feel so strange? He wanted to protect Silver, hold him, love him? That wasn't right. His mother always told him that boys loved girls, not other boys. Was she right? I don't know...loving Silver feels right to me. But, he's always been so mean to me. And I still like him...I just don't know!! He shook his head in an attempt to clear it of such conflicting thoughts, but they kept coming. I can't stay...I've gotta leave before I do something I might regret. And with that thought, he got to his feet and looked down at Silver. His heart screamed at him to stay with this beautiful boy, but his head told him to leave and not look back. Nervously, he bit his lip and took off his hat, raking fingers through his dark hair as he decided what to do. Piteously, he hung his head and sighed. "I wish I didn't have to leave, but I do. I hope you understand sooner or later, Silver." His heart thudded in his chest as he thought about kissing Silver goodbye. It would be his first real kiss ever, but Silver deserved something. Taking a deep breath, he bent down and kissed the other boy's lips. The kiss was soft and gentle, lasting only for a few seconds. But when Gold straightened up, he found himself getting teary-eyed. He bit his lip again before turning away and walking out of the room. Silver opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling, tears coming down his cheeks. "I only understand that I love you, Gold." ~OWARI~
