Abstract:
Examines the attitudes of the UAE university students towards the local policemen. A sample containing 336 students (140 males, 196 females) of different colleges completed questionnaire of attitudes to the policemen, measuring three components involving the beliefs about the professional efficacy, the professional ethics, and the emotional feeling towards policemen. The results indicate that although attitudes to the police were moderately positive, males were significantly less supportive than females. Males attitudes are not related to their age, the achieved scholastic hours, and GPA. But females attitudes are negatively related to the age, the achieved scholastic hours. The attitudes of females who have formal direct contact with the police are more positive than who have not. The attitudes of males haven’t differed according to the police contact. The relationship of these findings to the related literature is discussed.
