Changes in 2002
Disbanded

Two more teams were eliminated after the 2001 season from the Interstate League, the New York Knights and the BIG BATS (see "Disbanded" for rosters).  Two other teams, Mudville 9/BLUE COLLARS and halos/BRONX BOMBERS, changed ownership in order to keep the level of competition up.

The head-to-head format has been retained, however the scoring categories have changed a bit:

Offensive Categories

2001 - R, H, 2B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, GIDP, TB, AVG

2002 - R, H, HR, SB, CS, BB, K, AVG

Doubles were eliminated because they were a redundant stat that get picked up in hits.  RBIs were eliminated to take away the unfair advantage that hitters in good offensive teams have.  GIDP was eliminated because it was unfair to hitters who had bad base-runners in front of them.  Total bases is a redundant stat.  The caught stealing and strikeout stats were added to be an equalizer.   If a player is good, it should not matter much.

Pitching Categories -

2001 - IP, W, SV, HBP, K, WP, HLD, TB, ERA, WHIP

2002 - IP, SV, HBP, K, WP, HLD, ERA, WHIP

Wins were eliminated because it is unfair to good pitchers on bad teams.  Total bases is once again a redundant stat.

The number of active players changed slightly:

2001 - C,1B,2B,3B,SS,LF,CF,RF,U,SP,SP,RP,RP,P,P,P

2002 - C,1B,2B,3B,SS,U,U,LF,CF,RF,SP,SP,SP,RP,RP,RP,P

Basically, there is an additional utility player slot and a few revisions to the pitcher slots.   Instead of having 3 generic pitcher slots that can be filled by either a RP or SP.  The slots have been reallocated to a SP, a RP and a generic pitcher.
