braves in 02

baseball08 dominated the first season of the Interstate League, which was a mid-season league in 2000.  They had the highest number of saves  (54), the second highest team batting average  (.309), second in runs (390), home runs (100), and second lowest number of total bases allowed (616).  They finished the season with 202 points, 9.5 points ahead of white sox #1, later known as Rib Eaters.  After it was announced that the league would become a keeper league, they made a very shrewd personnel move in picking up “Pudge” Rodriguez from the free agent pool.  Rodriguez had been dropped by the shynsplynts after a season-ending injury.  The shynsplynts, by the way, never got it together and disbanded after just one season.

baseball08 was able to hold on to 13 core members of their team.  In addition to Rodriguez, the team re-signed Jason Giambi, Derek Jeter, Cliff Floyd, Vladimir Guerrero, Jermaine Dye, Troy Percival and Andy Pettitte among others.

In 2001, the franchise ended the Regular Season in second place (228-156-34, .586 pct.), six and a half games behind the Rib Eaters.  The team lost a closely fought Semi-final match to the Jumanjii Jynx, 9-8.  The loss was the beginning of a downward spiral for the team.  In the following Consolation match for third place, the Port Washington Puppets defeated baseball08, 12-7.

The 2002 Season should be an exciting one for braves in 02 (formerly known as baseball08).  On paper, the team formerly known as baseball08 may be the most balanced team in the league.
