These are costumes I made for the "Fete du Bon Vieux Temps" dance, that is held here in February.  This is called the "Colonial Mardi Gras Ball".  Most patrons come dressed in 1770 era clothes.  Our whole family attends.

This is the first outfit that I made.  It is the colonial women's chemise, worn with a skirt and bodice.  It amazes me, these patterns are made to fit all times, as they use drawstrings to adjust size. The chemise was also used as a nightgown.  No colonial woman would have been without one.
This is the Early American shirt, it was worn in the first 200 years of our country's history.  The shirt was worn for everyday, and was dressed up with an ascot tie that has lace on it.  The breeches circa 1776 were broadcloth or linen or could have been made of leather, complete with drop front and gussets in back for sizing.
These were the following year.  My husbands addition was the tallcoat.  Boy what a sharp outfit.  What I did was to make a new dress, it is a circa 1776. It is 2 part, the pettiskirt which shows in front, the bodice also has a skirt attached to it, the edges are trimmed in lace. Underneath the dress is a Farthingale, it is a waistband with 2 pillows on it.  Like I needed extra hip padding HA!  For you sewers out there this dress used 14 yards of material.
You can buy patterns from circa 1300 up to modern day.  If you are interested, drop me a line and I'll let you know where you can purchase your very own "Patterns from the Past"
