Geelong v Western Bulldogs
Round 12 - Saturday June 16, 2:10pm
The Bulldogs were expected to win this match against a Geelong side missing two of their stars in King (injury) and Burns (suspension). However, Geelong, aided by a 4 goal wind advantage had a great start to the match, kicking 7 goals in the first quarter to the Bulldogs one. This was not the start the Doggies wanted, but they would have the wind in the second term.

Geelong kicked the first 3 goals of the quarter and the margin reached a massive 47 points. It seemed as though the Dogs were gone. Geelong were dominating all over the ground. Their midfield was winning posession, their forward line was accurate  (10 goals, 2 behinds at that stage) and the backline had kept the Bulldogs to a miserly 2 goals.

However, this would all change halfway into the 2nd term. An intercept by youngster Lindsay Gilbee resulted in a goal to Hunter. Curely followed with a goal just inside 50, Brown got 2 in about as many minutes, and Nathan Eagleton also goaled to give the Bulldogs a reasonable margin of 17 points going into the half time break.

Geelong had the wind again in the 3rd quarter, but failed to capitalise only managing to kick two goals. The Dogs also kicked 2, keeping the margin to what it was at half time. Brad Johnson would have taken the mark of the year if it wasn't for that punk from Collingwood, Chris Tarrant!

The final term gave the dogs the wind advantage again, however, victory was by no means assurred. After a slow start to the quarter, the boys began to chip away at the Cats lead with goals from  Nathan Eagleton, Brad Johnson and Daniel Giansiracusa. However, it was a goal from an ex Geelong player in Matthew Robbins which gave the Bulldogs the lead. Chris Grant goaled from a difficult angle to increase the margin and Scotty West sealed the win before a late goal to Geelong.

While the club would not have been happy with giving the Cats such a lead, it was a great fighting win. In fact, it was the 2nd biggest comeback in the history of the club!

Final Score: Western Bulldogs 15.4.94 defeated Geelong 13.9.87
