"It's all about Christ. Period."

June 2005 welcomes a new force in Christian music, Iscariot Records. Founded by producer Erik Benson of Olympia, Washington, Iscariot Records is committed to providing production mentoring, prayer support, and one very loud voice for up-and-cominhg Catholic artists in the Northwest. A non-profit label, Iscariot Records believes in charity, poverty, and evangelization through music. We will never earn a single dollar from any of our projects, but rather hope to be an example of honesty and integrity in the music industry.

       What's in a name? Honestly, for a
Catholic record label so committed to not selling out, Iscariot has got to be the single worst name you could possibly choose. Judas the Iscariot (meaning murderous betrayer) was the ultimate sell-out. When he sold out Jesus, his friend and savior for thirty pieces of silver his name became synonomous with a person who betrays under the guise of friendship. This is exactly what I want to keep in the front of my mind, to test myself against every day, to make sure that we at Iscariot Records do not fall into the same trap. The name Iscariot was chosen to remind us that we are all sell-outs, that we have all betrayed Jesus, and that His Precious Blood is thick on all of our hands, but despite all of this He loves us the same and his mercy is infinite. Plus it's a badass sounding name for a label, agree?

From the get-go Iscariot Records has been designed as a small, poor, independant label intended to have a tremendous impact on the world. We are not greedy, we are not self-seeking, and we will not compromise our moral values for anything. Christ has given us the ultimate gift, and it is our job to share that gift through our music. All glory to God.
