CHRIST
MAS SPIRITRead : Phillipians 2:1-11
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 2:5
How would you define "the Christmas spirit"? Would it be a friendly smile between strangers, the sound of familiar carols, a tree with twinkling lights in a sea of brightly wrapped packages, or just that good feeling you get this time of the year?
None of these elements captures the real meaning of the phrase. They represent feelings that may be a response to the commercialism that distorts the real spirit of Christmas.
J. I. Packer goes to the heart of this matter in his book Knowing God. He writes, "We talk glibly of the Christmas spirit, rarely meaning more by this than sentimental jollity . . . . It ought to mean the reproducing in human lives of the [temperament] of Him who for our sakes became poor, . . . the spirit of those who, like their Master, live their whole lives on the principle of making themselves poor—spending and being spent—to enrich their fellowmen, giving time, thought, care, and concern to do good to others . . . in whatever way there seems need."
In Philippians 2, Paul described the God of heaven and earth as laying aside His divine glory and becoming our servant by dying on the cross for our sins. Then he urged us to duplicate that same mind of humble service to others. That's the true Christmas spirit! —DJD
If we look beyond the manger
To the cross of Calvary,
We will know the reason Christmas
Brings such joy to you and me. —D. De Haan
The spirit of Christmas giving should be seen in all our living.

Inspirational Motivational
Verse :
"Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom, as you teach and admonish and train one another in spiritual things, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God"
FB Meyer has said that "The Word of God is the wire along which the voice of God will certainly come to you, if the heart is hushed and the attention fixed".
Paul challenges us to "Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly". The Amplified translation says "Let the word, spoken by Christ, have its home in your hearts and minds and dwell in you in all its richness".
How important it is to allow quality time every day, to place the Word of God in our lives. Paul gives us a programme to fulfil this, when he says to (1)Teach (2)Admonish and (3)Train one another in spiritual things. Along with this knowledge equipping, we are to have a singing, rejoicing spirit that goes along with the powerful promises of God. To cap it off, we are to have a ‘grateful heart’. The attitude of gratitude.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:20

SEPTEMBER 2005
Church HiStory
Read:
Zechariah 4:6"…… ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts."
Blessed birthday BEREAN AOG, Batu Pahat. Do you know how old is BEREAN AOG this year? We are celebrating our 38th birthday with our LORD JESUS CHRIST. Read on some history of Berean AOG, BP.
Rev. Fred Seaward was the pioneer who started this church on Aug 31, 1967 with a 1-month long crusade meeting in an open air meeting. There was a handful of converts and the church was started.
From 1967 to 2005, Berean AOG began at Jln Sulaiman, a humble house of a 2 room terrace, Jln Mustapha, Jln Mengkudu, Jln Mohd. Salleh, we even held worship service at Hotel Carnival, to what we have now, a 2 storey shoplot in Jln Flora. Those were the eventful years with wonderful testimonies, healings and transformations. People received JESUS, some stayed faithful till now. Most left BP town for studies and work purposes. Like what Pastor Teo mentioned at one of the services, Berean is like a production house.
Over the years, Berean has raise up 15 full-time ministers and have 6 outreach churches. We thank GOD that the churches still exist till today and the full-time ministers are serving the LORD faithfully. Praise GOD for what He has done in our lives, our families, our community, our workplace, our town and especially our country. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Galatians 6:9
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Let Us Be A People Of Destiny!

Our Mission Statement
AUGUST 2005
Our Prayer Partner
Read:
Romans 8:14-27The Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought.
--Romans 8:26Have you ever been speechless before God? Perhaps you know the frustration of being utterly unable to find the right words to pray.
Imagine a loving parent seeking to help a child with a speech problem. As the youngster struggles to express his feelings and desires, the parent with his own voice formulates what the child wants to say. This is a picture of how the Holy Spirit catches our deepest longings and aspirations and brings them in line with the Father's ultimate purposes for us.
The weaknesses spoken of in Romans 8:26 refer to our inability to pray intelligently. This is evident from the phrase that immediately follows: "For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought." The Holy Spirit, who knows us better than we know ourselves, helps us. He takes our feeble attempts, and in a language all His own He interprets them to the Father in keeping with His holy will.
What a mystery! What a motivation to pray--especially when the words do not come freely. Even the faintest cry of "Abba, Father" (Rom. 8:15) reaches heaven's throne.
We may not know what to pray for, but we have a holy prayer partner who does. That should stir us to keep on praying, no matter how helpless we feel. --DJD
O God, too weak and worn for words, I shrink
From trials that deeply wound, and yet to think
Your Holy Spirit helps me as I pray
And gives a voice to what I cannot say. –Gustafson
When you can't put your prayers into words, God hears your heart.

Our Mission Statement
JULY 2005
Turn to our Father in heaven
40-days fasting and praying
22 July – 30 August 2005
Welcome to the nationwide 40-day Fast & Prayer & Charity for Malaysia. It is exciting to know that you are joining thousands of other Christians to pray for our country and other needs of the world.
In Luke 18:1: One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must never give up.
Likewise, we must continue to pray for our country, especially for people who have not heard the gospel. This year our theme is "Turn To Our Father in heaven". We pray that every person will be given the opportunity to turn to our Heavenly Father.
Our heart’s desire is to hear Him say, as the father said to his prodigal son, "Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening in the pen. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found." So the party began!
Begin this prayer adventure by praying these words:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving me so much that even when I do wrong and do not honour You, Your love never runs out and You are willing to forgive me. You have also promised never to leave nor forsake me. Please help me to be diligent to pray and share Your everlasting love to my friends and others who have yet to hear about Your great love.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Our Mission Statement
JUNE 2005
The Church In The World
Read:
Acts 8:1-8Those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the Word. --Acts 8:4
I recently saw a photograph of people leaving a church after a service. They were carrying Bibles and smiling. As I looked at those men, women, and children, I thought, there goes the church. The building will stay, and it will be referred to as "a church." But those bricks can't preach and those pews can't witness. Only people can do that.
Author R. C. Sproul wrote, "Where the people of God are, there is the church--under the lordship of Christ and indwelt by the Spirit."
This is the essence of the commission Jesus gave to His disciples just before He left them. He promised them power from the Holy Spirit, and said they would be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). And when the first-century church of Jerusalem came under persecution, that's what happened. They were scattered and proclaimed the gospel wherever they went (8:4).
When believers in Jesus Christ leave a worship service, the building stays, but God's people--the church--fan out into the community. Throughout the week, they continue to be the church wherever they are in the world--in shops, universities, restaurants, and homes. I wonder, is the world hearing the gospel from the church? --DCE
The witness of the church on earth
Must shine with brightest light
To all who need the second birth
And strength to live aright. –JDB
The world won't go to the church, so the church must go to the world!

What Is A Dad?
A Dad is a person
Who is loving and kind,
And often he knows
What you have on your mind.
He’s someone who listens,
Suggests, and defends.
A Dad can be one of Your very best friends!
He’s proud of your triumphs,
But when things go wrong,
A Dad can be patient
And helpful and strong.
In all that you do,
A Dad’s love plays a part.
There’s always a place for him
Deep in your heart.
And each year that passes,
You’re even more glad,
More grateful and proud
Just to call him your Dad!
Thank you, Dad
For listening and caring,
For giving and sharing,
But especially, for just being you!

Our Mission Statement
MAY 2005
The Power Of Pentecost
Read: Acts 1:1-11
You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me. —Acts 1:8
A pastor I know and love is discouraged. Although he is diligent in prayer and works hard, his church remains small while a new congregation nearby is rapidly developing into a megachurch. Yet when I think of the alcoholics, drug addicts, and sexually immoral people he has led to the Savior and a new way of life, I see him as one who witnesses in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Because of what happened on the Day of Pentecost (described in Acts 2), we tend to associate the Holy Spirit's presence and power with amazing phenomena and large numbers. We forget that a little later the same people filled with the same Holy Spirit were rejected, flogged, imprisoned, even executed. But through it all they were powerful witnesses!
The Holy Spirit's presence and power can be evidenced in a dynamic preacher who attracts great audiences. But it is seen as well in the volunteer who carries on a one-on-one prison ministry, in the person who witnesses to a co-worker or a neighbor, and in the Sunday school teacher who faithfully teaches week after week.
The power of Pentecost is not reserved for the highly gifted. It is available to all believers in Christ who want to serve Him. —HVL
God's guidance and help that we need day to day
Are given to all who believe;
The Spirit has come and He is the source
Of power that we can receive. —Branon
The power of God's Spirit gives power to our witness.

Tax Assessment Time
Goods vs GOODS
A tax assessor came one day to a poor Christian to determine the amount of taxes he would have to pay.
The following conversation took place:
"What property do you possess?" asked the assessor.
"I am a very wealthy man," replied the Christian.
"List your possessions, please," the assessor instructed.
The Christian said:
"First, I have everlasting life, John 3:16
Second, I have a mansion in heaven, John 14:2
Third, I have peace that passes all understanding, Philippians 4:7
Fourth, I have joy unspeakable, 1 Peter 1:8
Fifth, I have divine love which never fails, 1 Corinthians 13:8
Sixth, I have a faithful pious wife, Proverbs 31:10
Seventh, I have healthy, happy obedient children, Exodus 20:12
Eighth, I have true, loyal friends, Proverbs 18:24
Ninth, I have songs in the night, Psalms 42:8
Tenth, I have a crown of life, James 1:12
The tax assessor closed his book, and said, "Truly you are a very rich man, but your property is not subject to taxation."
I pray that all of us will have this kind of tax free "WEALTH".

Our Mission Statement
APRIL 2005
A loving hand on the helm
"….. in quietness and trust is your strength…."
Isaiah 30:v15
R
ecently a severe storm hit the British Isles, and not far from my home a whole row of beautiful trees was brought down. A local paper interviewed a tree specialist and asked him why those particular trees were uprooted when others nearby were not. This was his reply: "The water in that area was too near the surface and so the trees did not have to put their roots down deep to find water; hence the tragedy." It is a parable. Sometimes GOD denies us a shallow answer in order that we may put our roots deeper into eternal reality, and consequently stand tall and strong in any future storm. A person with the inner strength of which we are speaking expressed it like this:Nothing that happens can hurt me,
Whether I lose or win.
Though life may be changed on the surface,
I do my main living within.
A wise Welsh preacher I knew used to say: "We must learn to live in time and eternity simultaneously." If the time side of life seems to be full of trouble then the eternity side holds us steady. When a missionary to the Chinese people was asked for the secret of his poise and inner strength he answered: "Confidence in the goodness of GOD." Pressed to expand on that statement, he added: "I have come to the place in my Christian life where I am convinced that in the midst of the worst thing that can happen there is a good and wise purpose at work. Thus I can go on, knowing that love is at the helm of my life. GOD loves me too much to let anything happen to me that will not work out for good." In the words that Moffatt uses to translate our text for today: "Your strength is quiet faith."
Father, I too rest in the Ultimate, not in the immediate. In You I am impregnable. I view the panaroma of life in quiet confidence, knowing that a loving hand is at the helm of my affairs. I trust You and rejoice in Your goodness. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Our Mission Statement
MARCH 2005
Give thanks
"
Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples…." Matt. 15:36Another characteristic of those who possess a deep inner spiritual strength is a thankful heart. "So far as thanksgiving is concerned," said Dr W.E. Sangster, "the mass of people can be divided into two classes: those who take things for granted, and those who take things with gratitude." I wonder to which class you belong.
In the book
Ten Golden Rules for Financial Success (in my opinion, not an appropriate title for a Christian book), Gary Moore gives this as the first rule: count your blessings. In that chapter he talks about Sir John Templeton, a financier and a philanthropist, who gives millions of pounds away each year to people all over the world. Sir John, he says, follows this principle in his life: every morning when he awakes he lies still on his bed and thinks of five things for which he can be thankful. He believes that until you can recognize the good things that are going on around you, you do not have a proper basis for handling life. At this point you might say: "It’s all right for Sir John Templeton with all his wealth, but what about me? I have to struggle to make ends meet." If that is your reaction, it is my hope that over these next few days you will focus not so much on what you don’t have but on what you do have. Before our Lord took the loaves and fish and handed them to the disciples He gave thanks. Jesus made it a practice to thank God for His goodness in all things. He was constantly giving thanks. And so must we. Someone has said: "The most foolish person in the world is that person who complains about what he does not have instead of being thankful for what he does have." How true.
My Father and my God, I want to join the ranks of those who take things with gratitude. Help me cultivate a thankful and praising heart; teach me how to count my blessings. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. Am

Our Mission Statement
FEBRUARY 2005
Honeysuckle Christians
"A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed."
Prov. 11:25 (NIV)One of the pillars of wisdom is generosity. This subject is a favourite theme of Proverbs. Our text tells us that when we move out of ourselves and give to others, we ourselves are refreshed. An old Welsh proverb says: "The greatest joy in giving is to be the one who gives."
Now we must not take this to mean that we ought to focus on generosity because it brings rewards. Generosity that is exercised simply for the purpose of reward is not generosity. The reward comes as a by-product of giving. I have heard ethicists – those who study questions of right and wrong – pull the above text to pieces. They say that this (and similar statements found in the Word of God) make Christianity a form of sophisticated selfishness. Christians, they say, give to others because it makes them feel good, not because it is the right thing to do or the right way to live. Christianity, they conclude, is an indirect form of selfishness. Well, we must admit that some Christians might look at things in this way but I imagine they are few and far between.
I love the way Charles Harthern, a preacher of a bygone generation, described giving: "Some give like a sponge – only when they are squeezed. Some give like Moses’ rock – only when they are hit. True Christians, however, give like the honeysuckle – because they delight to give." That’s the secret – giving because one delights to give. The generous hand must come from a generous heart. If the heart is not generous, then however much the hand gives, there is no true generosity.
Gracious and loving heavenly Father, I ask for the blessing, not only of trust and integrity, but of generosity also. And I ask not just to get a blessing, but to give a blessing. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.

Ang Pow Offering – Feb 12th
This year Ang Pow Offering is designated for Pastor Ruth in appreciation of her years of service in Berean. In 1983, she gave up a rewarding sales career in JB to be a pastor of Berean, a position that came with a paltry salary in comparison to her earnings in JB. But she has not looked back and instead given over 20 years of her life to serve in Berean. Besides being a shepherd of the Chinese-speaking congregation, she has been overseeing the English-speaking congregation in Pastor Teo’s absence and shuttling to Yong Peng to look after Berean’s daughter church, Faith Assembly of God. Thank God for His wonderful gift to Berean. Come Feb 12th let’s show our utmost appreciation to this faithful servant of the Lord by blessing her with an extra big fat Ang Pow.

Our Mission Statement
JANUARY 2005
A message by Rev. Teo Kwee Keng
On 26/12/2004 a tsunami resulted by an earthquake caused 125,000 deaths in 11 countries and it received a worldwide attention. In Matthew 24, Jesus talked about the end-time disasters and of His second coming. The tsunami is only the beginning of ‘birth pangs’. More are yet to come. In Noah’s time, God sent the flood to destroy the world because of their wickedness but He saved only Noah and his family because of his righteousness.
Let us be living by faith.
Jesus says, ‘In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.’ (John 16:33) It is our faith that overcomes the world. We are faced with so much of uncertainties for the future. As we live in faith, we can be more than conquerors.
Let us also be hopeful.
Having this hope in Christ, therefore purify yourself. (1 John 3:3) This world is not our home. Our destiny is a city made by God. Let us dedicate ourselves to God for our time is in His hand. He has promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He will be with us until the ends of the world.
How shall we live in this time of trouble?
Firstly, let us be discerning of God’s time and season. The Bible tells us that, I) when the fullness of time came Christ did come; II) when the cup of iniquity is full, the judgement of God falls. This is the time we are living in; do not live in your little world. Read, watch and listen to what God is doing all over the world.
Secondly, be watchful and alert. Prayerfully watch over our own souls. Watch over one another with encouragement, support and prayer.
Thirdly, let us be redeeming the time. "Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest." (John 4:35) A farmer knows the right time to reap. If he misses the correct time of reaping, the crops will wither and be wasted. Hear the cry of the lost, saying, "The summer is ended; the winter has come; yet we are not saved."(Jeremiah 8:20) Let us spread the gospel!
