Jackets

Thick woolen sweaters( 2 long sleeves, 2 sleeveless), 1 water proof, thin wind-cheater for summer or fall rains. (snow jackets available in US, reasonably priced)

Suit

1 suit with ties, blazer if preferred. Get conventional colors.

Shoes

Sports (1), formal (1), slippers for home use, chappals for traditional gatherings.

Undergarments

At least 14 pair, 1 or 2 thermal wear. The idea is to have enough clothing for 14 days without having to wash them.

Misc. clothes

Muffler, head and/or face cap (woolen), hand gloves. Very useful during harsh winter days. Traditional wear for India functions. Please do not buy your snow jacket in India; also a leather jacket is not of much use during snow. 2 bedsheets, 1-2 thin blankets. Winter blankets to be bought here.

Cookware

Pressure cooker with extra valves and rings(1). Deep utensils(2) size should be big enough to cook for 4 people as you will be sharing the cooking. Spoons, dishes and glasses.

Toiletries

Toothbrush(4), tongue cleaner(2), shaving kit, bath soap(4), shampoo, hair brush/combs. Hair oil.

Medicines

A stock of basic medicines +special ones that you need.(consult your doctor for basic medicines, antibiotics if required as cough,sore throat and cold is common during winter) please be generous in bringing your medicines as prices here may be 10 to 100 times higher inspite of medical insurance coverage. Get Doctor’s prescription for all medicines that you bring. Make sure that you do the mandatory Mantoux test for Tb before coming here. Get all such medical reports.

Food

Non-perishable snacks, sweets according to your taste.

Music

Cassettes and CD’s. They cost twice as much here.

Books and stationary

Bring books that you feel might be useful most of the times. Please write to us before buying any course books, which you are not sure of. Bring a scientific calculator. Drafting instruments not needed. Bring a college bag (useful).
