Abstract
This research is an investigation and compilation of terminology related to landscape discipline in Malaysia. The investigation is done through referring from scientific references in landscape architecture and related or allied disciplines including botany, geography, agriculture, horticulture, architecture, planning and urban design, fine art and craft, environment sciences and engineering. Each vocabulary is referred from minimum of one resource. The complied terms are sorted in alphabetical order to ease reader to search for the required words and meanings.
The vocabulary is categorized into four types according to landscape architectural curriculum, namely, HT for history and theory, DP for design and planning, TC for technology and construction, and LM for landscape management. Some vocabulary is classified under more than one category.
This is the second stage of research which determined another set of 500 terminology applied in landscape architecture education and practice. There are 47 classified under DP, 296 under HT, 130 under TC and 27 under LM. The purpose of the documentation is to facilitate readers to know the accurate meaning of a vocabulary in landscape architecture perspective. Thus academicians, students and professionals could easily and accurately apply the term into their works.
The major purpose of the finding is formulation of a standardized terminological reference for landscape architecture means the quality of a place which accommodate for people to gather and interact. The meaning is shared by planning and architecture discipline but differed in scale of the space; planning may look the space as one village while in architecture and landscape architecture may apply it as the quality of a gathering space in front of a public building.
