Pahang river as an eco-tourism recreational corridor Ismai Said and Goh Hong Ching

This paper attempts to identify the potentials of Pahang River for water-oriented recreational activities. The process of determining the potentials include inventory of physical characteristics of the river and social, economic and cultural attributes of human population living along the river. The inventoried data is analyzed and findings are classified into three sectors, namely, accessibility, riverscape and special interest of the river. The analysis process suggested that the Pahang River possesses considerable potentials in physical factors, cultural nature-loving tourists to experience wide range of activities including rafting, camping, fishing, sightseeing and photographing and swimming. The study also proposed the local communities experience the river journey. Local government agencies related to tourism should also involve in educating the local people to engage in recreational trade while conserving the natural environment along the river. These steps will lead to a sustainable way in maintaining the river environment for many years to come.
