Cultural landscape represents the environment that has been modified by man through social needs and cultural values. Cultural and natural landscape that we perceive everyday plays an important role in developing an individual outdoor experience. It is reflection of sensual and community experience, setting for human life, place and culture. Malay cultural landscape in rural residential area with its significant landscape character has become one of the best models to study cultural responsive landscape in Malaysia.

Understanding cultural landscape is crucial for professionals such as landscape architect, planners and architects who involved with design of built environment. The absolute positive character that ascertain the image and space character derived from cultural landscape should be used as a guideline in developing responsive living environment in urban residential area.
