A PRECISE AND CAREFUL METHOD
FOR INTEGRATING QUOTATIONS INTO YOUR PAPER

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4.

1.     First, write the quotation you have chosen below.

2.  Write a sentence that identifies the source (who wrote it, or said it, or from what important document it came) of the quote. Tell why that source has authority (the speaker is informed or holds a relevant position of power).

3.  Write a sentence that tells why that quote proves the point you are writing about in your paper (why the quote is important).

4.  Combine 1, 2, 3 above: Write a passage that includes identification of the source, why it is important, and the quotation itself.  Use the models and the verb list in the “QUICK AND EASY TOOLS” hand out.
