The New Cavalier (revised)
by Anonymous

In a perfect world
I could speak my desire
and not be fired.

In a perfect world
You would not report to HR
My kiss, my touch, my deep caress;
And I would not be in distress
At having said too much
Or gone too far.

In a perfect world
You would know
The animal roar
that wilds my thoughts
And shed, like so much Prada,
Your shoulds and oughts.

In a perfect world
We would be lovers
(There, I've said it.)
We would feed the flame
That hungers within the embers
That smolder within us.
We would be free to rebrand ecstasy
And never regret it.
We would not remember
our promises to others.
We would shrug off the onus
of deceit, of shame.

Our flawed world is a fact--
We can't perfect it.
But do not expect me to act
As if I accept it.
