If you lay a new roof over an old roof, decking cannot be inspected, flashing will not be properly fitted and the excessive heat this creates will prevent your shingles from wearing properly
How to determine the need for ROOF REPLACEMENT
If you notice ceiling spots:
Check attic or crawl space for leaks Check chimney vents for cracks Check eaves for ice damage Check for damaged shingles
If you are missing shingles: This may be caused by wind damage or improper fastening. Shingles can usually be replaced individually.
If you are noticing sand like granules near your gutters: The granules will be the same color as your roof and may be a sign of hail damage or aging shingles.
BUCKLING may be caused by movement in the deck or felt exposure prior to application
BLISTERING may be caused by moisture or lack of ventilation
ROTTING may be caused by moisture
